The Wanenmacher gun show in Tulsa

Went to the Wanenmacher show today and spent 7hrs, went down every aisle. Sold a high dollar S&W, bought a cheap OTF auto knife. Had a good time, I had not been in a few years. You gotta bring your walking shoes for this one, lots to see. Anyone else go? I see lots of people from all over the US.

Three of us shared a couple tables one year. Mostly so we could walk the show before the doors opened to the public. Lots of high dollar guns and very few beanie babies type tables that I can remember. Was a long drive there from central Texas.

A couple buddies of mine had a table set up there and are the way back home as we speak. One picked up a beautiful Sharps w/ the old school “tunnel” scope in 40-65. He sold his Winnie 52-B with scope and all the target accessories from the old days.

I am going next year.

OH yeah, you'd better be in shape for all that walking, and you still won't see it all, it's too big. Better start walking every day and getting in good condition.

I've tried to guesstimate the total value of all the inventory at that show, my brain just couldn't do it. Immense.

Glad you had a good time. Take an extra day and go next door to Catoosa to the JM Davis Gun Museum, if you've never been there. The gun museum dot com.

I do a lot of walking every week so I was prepared for the big show. I put in 6.5 miles at the show and still couldn't didn't see every thing. The Ruger collection display was nice.

I have been to the JM Davis museum in Claremore it is very impressive. Also Woolaroc up by Bartlesville and the 45th Infantry Division museum in OKC have some very good gun collections.

I live about 30 miles from it and havnt been in several years. they wont let you bring a cart anymore so you have to hand carry anything you want to trade or sell. Its a well put on show though. Woolaroc is another thats 30 miles from me, they have a nice Colt collection there.

Woolaroc, I’ve been reading the book “Oil Man” about Frank Phillips. It sounds like he was quite the colorful character! I’d like to see that someday. Also as I never got higher than one year in the Boy Scouts I never knew Philmont was linked to the Phillips family either.

It's a great show. That one and Lakeland Florida collectors are the only ones that interest me any more

Catoosa? The Davis museum is in downtown Claremore. I've been in it a couple of times. I have a cousin who lives in Claremore. The Will Rogers Museum in Claremore is also pretty interesting.

^^^^^ Yup, apparently I had a moment of cranial flatuence. I meant Claremore, but if you look on the map you'll find Catoosa and Claremore are very close neighbors, and both are in the Tulsa metro area.

Did you know the Port Of Catoosa is the nations most inland seaport? And is just about the largest inland seaport? And is the most Ice Free? Who'da thunk that?

Got home at midnight last night from Tulsa. 440 miles from the show home to central Iowa. This was my 20th show there, started in 2010. The last several have been busier that ever. Staff told me they had 17k public walk ins on just Saturday at the April 2021 show. This weekends show seemed a bit less busy but it was well attended with all 4400 tables full.

I have heard enough about this show to know I should put it on my gun bucket list, but curious to know if it possible for someone like me who is from out of state to purchase a handgun or other regulated firearm at this show?

Aside from sellers who don't have a problem with shipping, are there other provisions at the show to facilitate this like an enterprising UPS store owner?

I dont think the state of Oklahoma has a problem with out of state buyers, I would be surprised if its anything but the usual 5 minute background check....

Doesn't federal law prohibit sales of handguns to out-of-state persons? Maybe you could pay for one but would have to have it shipped to a FFL in your state.

Federal, and most if not all state laws, prohibit this. But most dealers would not mind shipping to an FFL in the purchasers state for transfer. Does not apply to certain antiques and black powder guns in many states.
