I first noticed this phenomenon (central and east European women having a very high standard of beauty) in 1966 in Czechoslovakia. It was repeated in Poland in 1990; and by 1995-6 when I was living in Novosibirsk, Siberia, I was a full-time swivel neck.

It's not just the natural beauty, and the lack of obesity in young women. It's their universal sense of femininity. When western cosmetics, lingerie, and apparel became available in Russia in the early 90's, the young women were able to buy what they had only dreamed of having, and believe me, they made the most of it.

I'm back to edit for the third time, because I had overlooked something else. Beauty is not just skin deep. It's also in the movement, the poise, the confidence. Many of these young beauties have been trained in dance, and it shows.

Honestly, for me, I think they need to have a sandwich or 6.
