I looked at the duties for "weather observer". And it looks like in addition to observing the WX, you are doing everything else too. Including cooking.
I guess that is what rates $1500 a week.

I have spoken with Navy Personnel who did a tour. You then get to go wherever duty station you desire after this assignment. People underestimate the effects of total darknee or light. You get tired of your roomies real quick. You have to have the proper temperment.
