For $50, how on earth can you go wrong...….There is likely to be a big pork shortage from Smithfield and others closing down. See if the farmer can butcher it for an additional fee. I'd assume they butcher a hog for themselves every once in a while.

I bet the farmer would let you butcher it at the farm, grab a meat saw and a book, watch a couple of you tube videos and go have at it.

Just watch Scarface.

I think he's jumping to quick.
Trump plans to implement the Defense Production Act to keep meat processing facilities open in order to maintain the food supply.

the farmer that the news people spoke with , on the noon news today said that they like to send them to market at 260# to 275#.

even after cutting way back on their feed they still keep gaining weight.

And they must make room for the next round.

They simply don't have the room for them and they keep growing.

Barns grow pigs in 5-6 months. After they get market size, they can put on weight very rapidly.
They get so big that they will die from heart attacks.

And the next round is coming in...
They haul'em out, clean the barns and the next round is on its way.

IF you get a good grinder (NOT NEEDED) you can do everything yourself.

We no longer take our deer or hogs to a processor

Are you able to transport the pig and is there a processor that is willing to take it or not so busy that they can't get to it for the next couple of months?

We are running into that issue here in SC. I work as a Compliance Officer for the SC meat inspection, and the slaughter/ processing places are so backed up that the next open spot is in August or September. Also know your laws as far as selling or giving away meat and if it is inspected or not inspected at the local processor.

My grandfather once purchased a new Cadillac to chauffeur one of his hogs around in. Pigs aren't difficult to transport. Wink

Do you have a 2 door or a 4 door?
