As old age and treachery continue to take their tolls, 2017 revealed a new insult: “trigger finger”. Got it on 3rd and 4th digits on left hand and 1 and 2 on right. Aparrently caused the problem by using a posthole digger to plant small fruit trees. Never heard of it before. Just had second round of steroid injections into hands. Doc says 2 injections are the limit. If they don’t work, then surgery. As I close in on 70 yrs, I am continually amazed by the variety of parts that can go bad. Fingers don’t seem to be improving much. Anyone ever had trgger finger surgery?

I am in my 40's and have it on my left index finger. Probably from being in the IT field with too much typing. Already had one cortisone shot and it only lasted less than a year. My uncle had the surgery done to release the tendon and is happy with the results. He said that the procedure is simple and quick. I was scheduled to see my doc again for it, but had to cancel. Lately I have been massaging the area a few minutes a day and it actually seems to be 80% better now. So I may hold off on seeing my ortho doc again. God Bless

Trigger finger surgery is very low risk fast and effective will be back to normal
Use of hand in just a few weeks. I have worked in hand surgery and while on occasion injections were beneficial in injections I gave the rate of effectiveness hovered around only 25%

I had "trigger finger" on one digit, very annoying. I consented to the painful steroid injection and it cleared up; never to reoccur.

What is it, symptoms?

Not blind yet but got the glasses. Symptoms? When fingers clasped, they don’t want to straighten. Feel like they are Locked in fist position. Painful to open and pop when opened. Sometimes have to
Pry open in the AM. Tendon tube in palm apparrntly collapsed inhibiting tendon ability to slide within tube thereby keeping finger from opening freely.

Very common with Diabetic patients. I've had the surgery
on several fingers at different times.
I went to a hand surgeon, outpatient clinic.
Minor surgery, fast recovery.

Thanks. I’ll give the steroids a while to work. If no luck, will go back to the hand surgeon for the preocedure. Glad it’s outpatient surgery.

As to the “excessive masterbation” comment, I thought that was a self limiting kinda deal.

Had surgery for it a couple years ago. Very easy recovery.

I had trigger finger surgery at the same time as my carpal tunnel surgery (same hand). Less than a yr later & it will still catch & not open up, however it doesn't happen as often or as bad as it use to. The carpal tunnel surgery has been a complete success.

I had a friend who had his trigger finger surgery before mine & he had great results. Mine tends to catch more when using my fine motor skills like painting my fingernails or hand sewing.

Cortisone shot works for a while.. as long as you dont over stress it again.
