Ring doorbell- hardwire or battery?
Like others I used hard wire and had to upgrade my doorbell transformer. Set it and forget it, it just works.

The hardwired has more features. It will record 3 seconds prior to the motion event. The battery is playing catch-up and you could miss some of the motion when the camera wakes.

The hardwired also has better motion sensor settings. You can draw a motion area and avoid certain area prone to false activations. The battery version only has a low medium high settings.

It's part of the mounting base for the doorbell; look at the picture below. The solar thingy makes sort of a "picture frame" around the doorbell.

There is no entry door on the south side of my house. My front door faces east. The doorbell has to be mounted where the camera has a good view of people at the door, and at a location where people would reasonable expect to find a doorbell.

Whoever decided to build a solar panel around the doorbell ought to be horse whipped.

I've never seen or lived in a house that had direct sunlight on a front door or anywhere near it.

Yes, you can get some charging from indirect sunlight, but not much.
