Had my vasectomy in 1982 at Madigan Army Medical Center, Ft Lewis, Wa. No problems. Got home and was instructed to pack my junk in ice for about six hours. I sent the wife at the time to the store to get me a couple of beers and a couple of gun magazines so I could bide my time while freezing my nuts off. She comes back with the beer alright but instead of couple gun mags, I get a Playboy and a Penthouse. I divorced that bitch in 2000!

this is right at the point 23 years ago that my then 7 year old son kicked a soccer ball right in my sack. I can't recommend that. Had a physical about 3 days after that. When my doc saw it she actually cringed.

Had my vasectomy done in 1972. Went home and iced iced things in bed. I had the wife set up a box with carpet up at the other end of the room. I spent the time shooting Speer plastic bullets.

I had mine 7 years ago. Not too bad, but did experience some swelling after I went back to work. Had it done on a Friday, went back to work on Monday. Spent the weekend on the couch. Didn't ice it, because I wasn't in any pain.
Went to work Monday, wore an athletic supporter....big mistake. The elastic dug into my right side enough to cause some tremendous pain. My urologist actually suggested to wear 2 pairs of underwear instead of a supporter. I got home from work, grabbed a bag of frozen corn (out of peas) and sat on the couch for the next 3 hours with them there. Much better.
The next day, I wore 2 pairs of underwear (boxer briefs), much more comfortable and no issues with lack of support. My recommendation, based on my experience, would be for 2 pairs of underwear over an athletic supporter.

I ended up having more pain the night before when I nicked myself shaving for the damn thing, than afterwards.

Did mine on a Friday morning, so, I had the chance to lay on the couch the entire weekend.

I had mine a couple of days after President Reagan was shot. The Dr was advocating for gun control and I thought better about arguing, all things considered.

I followed the orders and was fine in a couple of days.

I had mine about 8 years ago. I chose the "no needle, no scalpel" version. THe doc uses a pneumatic injection method for the numbing. It's basically high pressure air to inject the numbing agent. That was the worst of it. It felt like a small rubber band snap on each side. I had already had a 4 day weekend. I had zero pain and zero complications. I guess I was lucky,

Had mine years ago when I turned 40. I had two bags of frozen peas that I alternated. It helped. Stayed off my feet. Back to work in three days.

I still have the bags of peas in my freezer. They make awesome ice packs.

Just take it easy and otc pain meds help.

When I had mine done, I was told to wear an athletic supporter.(jock strap). It provides traction, takes pressure off the cords. It works! The pain left as soon as I put it on!

I was hoping someone else would mention that. One injection in the scrotum is clearly cruel and unusual punishment - two should be outlawed.

Had mine done about 30 years ago, and I still remember those shots. Once they were done, it was a cake walk. Although I really didn't need the doc to show me the clipped portion of the tube he removed.

I need to schedule mine. I've been putting it off.

How's work today? Is a normal weekend enough time to recover or do you recommend a 3 day weekend?

I had mine back in 1984...I took two weeks vacation just to play it safe...had it on a Monday morning...it was more of a discomfort than pain on a quickly descending level from pretty uncomfortable on Monday to just a tender cod sack by Friday...swelling and the bruising went away quickly. On Saturday I felt safe enough to take an impromptu long weekend with the family on Tybee Island...

Of the whole thing, the thought about doing it and the shots to deaden everything was worse that the recoup period.
