Lived in Midland/Odessa through the highs and the lows....and there have been plenty of both. Looks as if this current boom is gonna last a while.

(Although $325 Holiday Inn hotel rooms do kinda suck.)

I've got a ranch in downtown Dallas
I buy diamonds by the ton
Chase cuties in my Cadillac
And drill oil wells just for fun
But when it comes to boots, I need a deal
That'll fit me right, toe to heel
So I get my boots at ... Western Warehouse!

Bio-Diesel can be made from Algae and other plant material and from discarded Plastics too.

Problem is Oil companies aren't interested in cheaper Diesel fuel and the average motorist doesn't like Diesel power.

Why would they ? You can't produce deisel from trash as cheaply or effectively as pumping it out of the ground. For that matter you can't power Aircraft Carriers and fighter aircraft with solar panels. Both lines of thought are preposterous.

Nonsense. I talking about passenger/truck Diesel power and what in the hell do you think ships run on?.

We run Diesels cars/trucks down here on cooking oil/Diesel fuel blends. Restaurants everywhere with cooking OIL that's thrown away or gathered and filtered and used as fuel.

We call them "Grease Cars".

Problem is government and greedy oil companies are too fucking lazy to tap into cheap oil.

Make up your mind: are they greedy or lazy? Seems to me it's hard to be both. Roll Eyes

You never met John McCain?
Please regale us with your wisdom on how we’re too greedy and lazy to tap into “cheap oil.” The last week in November, 8.9 million barrels of diesel was supplied to the US according to the EIA. You can start with many square miles of desert needs to be converted into algae refineries to produce 1 million barrels per week of algae diesel?

Ah, it seems that I touched a nerve in Houston.

If that much Diesel fuel was supplied, then why is Diesel fuel a dollar more than RUG, IF Diesel is said to be easier to produce than gasoline.

Also, what about Bio-Diesel? Some reading material....

Biodiesel is a diesel fuel that is made by reacting vegetable oil (cooking oil) with other common chemicals. Biodiesel may be used in any diesel automotive engine in its pure form or blended with petroleum-based diesel. No modifications are required, and the result is a less-expensive, renewable, clean-burning fuel...Feb 5, 2018

I’m answering zero questions until you answer mine. You chose to bring this biodiesel tangent into a thread having nothing to do with it. Back up your assertion.

I’d like to know more about this. I was under the impression that we produced about 10,000,000 bbl/d - that’s 10 million barrels per day of crude (which is roughly a half dozen supertankers worth), each and every day.

It will be refreshing to tell a bunch of good friends that they are “too fucking lazy” to tap into cheap oil. I’ll let you know how that conversation goes...

1. I hope Alpine doesn’t turn into another Pecos.

2. We’re gonna need to eat a shitload of fries to supply enough WVO to provide for our diesel needs. I’ll do what I can.

According to the map Alpine is well south of the area which comes into the top of Jeff Davis County while Alpine is in the northern end of the next county south, Brewster County.

I would be more concerned about lights from drilling operations interfering with the observatories in the Davis Mountains, but they have been dealing with that for decades.

I spent a night in Midland (or Odessa, forget which) on my trip west from MD, moving to AZ in 2002. On opening the car door, the first thing to hit me was the overwhelming smell of petroleum from the nearby refineries.

When in doubt, mumble

Do you know some secret the the 20+ companies didn't know? Its not financially viable at $90 a barrel, it's certainly not viable at half that price like we currently have.

Alpine isn’t much of a town, but it's the business center for a lot of people living in Jeff Davis and other nearby counties. Unless they want to make the 150 (or more) mile drive to Odessa or El Paso for serious shopping. And there’s already been drilling activity along Highway 67 around 20 miles from Alpine.

But what the heck do I know. I’ve just lived here for the last 20 years or so.

What!!! More oil made by planet earth and discovered by mankind???

We were told, by some of the finest scientific journals, media geniuses and politicians, the world was going to run out oil by the 1990's, the glaciers of the world and ice at the poles was going to melt and plunge the coastal areas of the world underwater, we would not be able to feed the planets population growth, and then we would plunge into extreme low temperatures...or high temperatures - which one was it?
