Here's a little sunshine for your day. Smile

My family volunteers with a beagle rescue in Tampa Bay, and we have had over 30 foster dogs come through our house. Occassionally, the rescue takes in dogs that aren't beagles, especially if they are being rescued with other beagles. We ended up with a raggedy old dachshund-basset hound mix who was blind in one eye and smelled HORRIBLE. She had been rescued from a hoarding situation along with 24 other dogs that were all in rough shape.

On the way home from the kennel, she stank so bad that we had to roll down the windows. We jokingly called her Stinky, and when we did, her ears perked up and she cocked her head, so it stuck as her name. It turns out that her teeth were in awful shape, so a vet ended up pulling almost all of her teeth. While this completely solved the odor problem, the name Stinky worked for her. She also had some potentially cancerous masses removed from her belly and was spayed.

After a month with Stinky, we decided that she belonged with us for her forever home, and we love her to pieces. She's a sweet, happy girl, and I am so happy that she will spend the rest of her days with our family, with all of the love and safety that she could possibly need. Stinky is playful with our other dogs and has fit in with our "pack" since the first day she was here.

We have had so many other adorable younger dogs as fosters, but this old girl absolutely stole our hearts.

As a “fellow foster failure” I say thank you. You saved Stinky by bringing her into your home, and saved another by freeing space at the rescue. God bless!

We did the same with an 11 year old Weim who became one of the greatest in a long line of canine family members. Picked him up as an emergency foster on a Saturday. Notified the rescue he was in his permanent home the following Monday. Good for you. And Stinky.

Good for you sir. Some of the older dogs are really appreciative of finding a home they can live out the remainder of their years in.

On a slightly different note, would you mind if I emailed you about an issue with Southeast Beagle Rescue? Just looking for a bit of advice/direction.

Sounds like she's in a nice ,safe ,comfortable home, good for you .

Now
Have you got room for a 6 foot 4 inch , 350 lb. adult male , up in years ? His knee's are on the way out, kidney problem , seven med pills a day . very quiet. likes short walks ( 1/2 mile)
