So here is what I want to do:

Wife and I want to be able to limit wifi access during the day when kids are home...ideally in a way that I can turn the password or access on/off without a lot of effort.

At the same time, we do not want our master wifi to be messed with. (that runs the home alarm/DVR/TV/etc)

So we need two wifi access points:

- WiFi Parents - that only we will have password for

- WiFi Kids - that they can have password for, but we can switch on/off as necessary.

If it matters, I use a Mac and do have access to my router. But for the life of me I cannot remember what to do from here.

To add....please save the "You should not need to do this, they should listen to you" comments. They are really REALLY good kids, but they are still kids.

The router I have has a guest access point separate from the two different ones for different frequencies. It is a Linksys 3500 something or other.

I set the two main ones with the same password. The guest access has a different one.

There is a device (waiting to hear back from my brother on the name) that you hook to your current network and you can set specific schedules for each device and cut access at anytime to any device by pulling the app up from anywhere.

I will post back when he responds to my text with the name of the device.

He likes it a lot and said it was easy to setup.

Pretty sure it shows you what is currently connect and the time frames it has been connected.

Any WAP with Guest (or multiple) SSID configuration will partially get you there.
Then one that has scheduling.
You might have to search around and it will be on mostly the better business WAP's.
I know my EWS Series I use from EnGenius has it.

I use the Access Control feature on our Airport. Works fine. Yeah we have “good kids” too but they still don’t get unlimited access day and night. Your router probably has this feature or something similar to allow MAC addresses access during a prescribed schedule.

This is one way to do it, there are others.

You probably want to list what Router you have. For example - Asus routers have a lot of options:

Or you could buy an Access Point (not a Wi-fi router). The Engenius AP's have scheduling capabilities. Set it to different channels than your network, and set the gateway to point to your current gateway (probably your router).

I set up a designated guest network for my son. It allows me to have complete control over access times, speed, websites etc etc etc
