Received an email from the CMP stating this:

Attention Email Subscribers: Due to a new Bill in California, CMP cannot send out email communications to our subscribers without having your full address and birthday in our email database. Please click on the “Update Profile” link in the footer of this email to update your contact details. CMP will continue to send out emails to only those subscribers that have completed their profile. We will also post updates on our Facebook page and our website. Thank you!

I don’t know why, but it pisses me off. Why force residents of 49 other states to update their info for one state with crappy gun laws. I’m not knocking California residents, I’m just tired of this type thing.

To some this may seem trivial but it’s another example of overreach and forcing the majority to participate in a minority activity.

I still believe in the cause of the CMP but dammit, they can do better.

Unsubscribe.
Even though not CMP's fault - don't enable the tyranny.
Sounds like Cali is taking a page out of the NYC playbook that made Rainier Arms give them their customer list so they can go after NYC customers.
Don't comply, IMO.

I received the same email.

I have purchased an M1 Garand, clips, and ammo from them years ago in a past address.

But they can go pound sand.

It's not. The CMP posted the same message on their website, and on their social media.

If you require further reassurance, when I went to update, they already had all of my information that was previously part of their database, and just needed me to add my birthdate.

This is why so many are opposed to national reciprocity of concealed carry. We'd be forced to bow to laws from the large population states such as CA and NJ both of which have shitty gun laws that favor the criminals.

Evil exists. You can not negotiate with, bribe or placate evil. You're not going to be able to have it sit down with Dr. Phil for an anger management session either.

I'm guessing AB 2571 - Firearm industry shall not advertise, market, or arrange for the placement of an advertising or marketing communication concerning any firearm that appears attractive to a minor...
2nd Amendment Foundation has already filed for an emergency writ of mandamus on this.

Nothing I see in that legislation requires they collect addresses or dates of birth.

As a matter of fact, this is in the legislation: "This section shall not be construed to require or authorize a firearm industry member to collect or retain age information about users or subscribers of products or services offered."

I missed that law. There are so many here it happens.

When I read the original post I wondered if this was Gun Control Tyranny or just normal Nanny State Tyranny... I can see them pushing that sort of regulation as a consumer protection as well.

Sounds more like self preservation tactics...

Any firm will work to to protect their assets from overbearing legislators, by putting in a DOB validation on the web page, if some minor enters a fake DOB so they can look at pictures of guns and then goes and does something bad, they can't be sued for it or lose their license.

Similar to any liquor web page or tobacco, you have to enter your DOB and validate you are of age to enter.

I got the same email this morning. I un-subscribed.

They probably noticed the number of their email subscribers went down in a matter of hours. (mistake or not on the original email).

Yeah, they sure did make a mistake. They have updated their email subscription to only require name, email address and state. They removed reference to the full address and DOB.

When looking at NRA articles linked from an email (could have been IDPA, GunsAmerica, or something else), upon hitting the link they said due to a recent CA law they had to verify I was an adult and popped up a place to enter my birthday. They don’t appear to check it against anything, except perhaps that you don’t claim to be a minor. None of the month, day, or year were accurate, but they moved right on to the article. Oh, and I make up something different every time, so they aren’t storing it and making sure that they get the same answer. My birthday is none of their business. I’m not a minor and that’s going to have to be good enough.

It’s the fucking legal environment we live in today. I am closer to 60 than 59 and I was forced to produce ID to buy a 4-pack of single serve wine the other day at Safeway.

I said “seriously?” Clerk said yes, because of some law suit they now have to do 100% ID check.

What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand???
