He's become part of the family with ease.
Pippin is Tab's first bird, but she has taken care of SC's for many years.
He chose Tabs as his favorite person which is a bonus for us. He has a schedule that he keeps and he will remind you that you've missed it. Dinner is at 5:00 sharp. Period. Mommy better have him on her shoulder and a spoon in his face. He's so spoiled now.

Those birds are amazing. Smile

My 81-year-old uncle was gifted an old giant red Brazilian(?) Parrot about 10 yrs ago, who likes him and nobody else. Uncle may not have long to live and the bird will eventually need a new home … great companion for Uncle.

Vet students don't get a ton of training on avians, unfortunately. Back in my day, they shipped in a German immigrant vet from (I think?) NC State who was their avian professor, and she stayed a few weeks to give us just enough information to be dangerous.

Anyhow, the first day she stands in front of my class (made up of 2/3 women) and says "the first rule of owning a bird is that you treat a bird the way you treat a woman: however you treat her in the first month of your relationship, she will expect for the rest of her life..." You coulda heard a pin drop, all the feminazi's in my class trying to figure out whether to be offended or not since it'd been a woman who'd uttered the statement.

Anyhow, your statement on being spoiled made me remember that laugh from way back. Beautiful bird, enjoy.

His original owners obviously loved hem very much. When we got him he knew all the cockatoo commands and responses. He knew how to eat off a spoon and his place at the table.

Someone after he lost his original family treated him cruelly. He has trust issues with me, but accepts me bringing food and will accept petting, but on his terms.

I can read his language and Tabitha knows how to give him what he wants to soothe his fears.
