A couple weeks ago I put some 35’s on the Jeep. Yesterday we went out to the powerline trail. Well, APS did some maintenance in their roads to access the power lines. They took a blade to the majority of the road, and all the technical spots. All the rock shelves and steps are gone. What was a 2.5 hour trip in 4lo, is now a 40 minute trip that was done in 4hi, but could have been run in Two wheel drive.

So we stopped at a pretty cool little section of 9513. When I first got my Polaris Razor a few years ago, I had looked at this section and thought only a madman would attempt to drive that. Well, in the Jeep, it was an easy crawl to the top.

The video dies no justice for how bad the trail really is. It’s between 20° and 30° when you’re climbing, and the steps are not small.

Nice!
How do you like the 35’s? I’m considering going to them on my JTR when the original Falkens wear out..

Nice! Mrs cooker always records so well.

I wish I could put 35's on my truck. But sounds like I would need new rims, and some modifications to fit.

Very nice, and the Jeep looks great.

Two questions: First, is the Rubicon a live front axle, or is the front end independent. Looked live from the clip, but I wasn't sure; Second, did you air down for the run, or is that normal operating pressure?

Thanks.

I thought you had a deal with Mrs. Cooker (Directive?) that you would hold off on the 35's and other mods for the Rubicon...

I believe you stated, "One of the conditions of buying this was that I won’t modify it right away. So I have a one year/tire wear moratorium on modifications. No mods for at least a year. No lift or 35’s until the tires are in need of replacement."

Did you renegotiate, or have you been REALLY Good in other ways/areas? Wink

How true this is! Every time I make a video of our Jeep on Colorado 4x4 trails, it ends up looking like something you could drive up in a Camry!

Nice looking Jeep!

smlsig, Loving the 35’s. The ride is even smoother and nicer, and they crawl over obstacles even easier.

Konata, thank you. She hated the GoPro so I sold that, and bought her the DJI OM4. It should arrive soon. I think she will be quite happy with it as it’ll be more familiar using her iPhone.

Artie, yes, it has a solid front axle. Both front and rear differentials were locked in for that trail, sway br disconnected. Aired down to 16 psi (hot). I normally run at 28 psi.

nhracecraft, I’ve been a good husband. I also sold a lot if my Toyota parts and recouped almost 100%, unheard of on aftermarket parts. So I have the 35’s, a programmer to change tire size and manipulate the TPMS pressures. Factory is 37 psi, and not changeable. I also ordered an “electronic start stop” shut off device. Yes, the programmer (Tazer) for the tires could shut that off as well, but I would have to leave the Security Gateway unplugged. Not something I’m willing to do. The SGW is basically the firewall that keeps the cellular connection separate from the ECU, BCM, and PCM. I also have a mesh top for the front two panels on the way, so we can take the Freedom (T-tops) off and not cook to death in the AZ sun. Part of me being a good husband and getting this, is taking her to LA for a few days next month. I’m not too excited about that vacation.

Black, yes, yes you do.

ORC, I have an endless collection of computer porn music. It was either Def Kev, or maybe some Slayer. I think you would hate them equally.

Whitks, seriously. It makes me wonder when I see videos that I’m like “WTF???”, how bad do those ledges and trails really look in real life?

^^^Well then, I guess if you've been a good boy and Mrs. Cooker is on board, then all is right in your world! Congrats again on the new Jeep and enjoy the trails with your girl! Wink

Beancooker: Very nice! Did you add any lift or do the 35's fit the stock Jeep?

With the Rubicon suspension and fenders, the 35's fit stock, on stock wheels. I haven't had any issues rubbing, even at full flex.

But how about brakes? For my truck, I thought I would need to get bigger rotor and brake system to accommodate larger wheels. That’s one big hold back. I’d like to do it but expensive.

Looked like fun. I used to do some of that in an old toyota 2dr 4wd truck.

I could tell even in the video that you were on a really steep road. The real fun starts when the road goes all sideways up the hill and you start sliding left while trying to go up...

Good to know. I'm at 3+ years on stock tires. Think I'll upgrade to 35s when the time comes. Have the same color you do and love the way yours looks!

Mr.9, I should have been clearer in my description. The 35’s will fit on a stock JLUR or JLR. I believe you need modifications if you drive a JKUR or JKR.

Thanks for the compliment. I love the way it looks. Almost like it should have come from the factory this way...

For the non keepers that are curious to the abbreviations: (JL and JK are jeep generation model numbers, the U is for “Unlimited” also known as four door, and the “R” designates Rubicon. So a JLUR is a 2018-2021 4 door Rubicon)

Konata, the general consensus at the JL Wrangler forum is that the JL Rubicon was designed for 35” tires on stock Rubicon wheels. This is thought because everything fits and works well. From the fenders, backspacing on the wheels to clear suspension, brakes handle the size just fine, no noticeable loss of low end power, even the spare tire carrier and the third brake lamp fit just fine with no modifications.

Switch from Factory wheels, and that can make a tremendous difference on fitment. Most aftermarket wheels are not spaced as conservatively as stock.

We're starting to look at the Gladiator Mojave (more logging roads, less rock crawling up here) and this thread is not helping!

We're trying to hold off a bit to clear some things up, but once you get that itch, it gets real hard not to go scratch it. Mad

Beancooker, Looks like a nice ride. I'm in a different situation. Wife bought a 2020 Wrangler Sport S and has been hitting the trails in NH. The first ride we took was on Class 5 roads: basically ATV terrain. My butt was puckered up the whole ride while she easily maneuvered the trail, following more seasoned riders ahead of her.

She has done some improvements to her Jeep: larger tires, winch and front bumper, etc. Her next mod is a 2"lift that will allow her more height for rockier trails. It's an addiction and one I'm really contributing towards. Have fun with the Jeep!
