Redistributing stupidity... American Spectator Paige Lambermont Fundamental misunderstandings of capitalism are peddled to young people on a daily basis. The most glaring example of this trend was a recent tweet by TeenVogue magazine, advertising their capitalism explainer article to teen girls with the caption, “Can’t #endpoverty without ending capitalism!” This is a magazine that caters mainly to a very young, female audience, and whose readers are still forming their opinions on big picture things like what the ideal economic system is. How can such a publication, in good faith, put out something that is so misleading about the basis of our economy? Capitalism has brought more people out of poverty than any other economic system ever has, or ever will. Look at any graph of world poverty, starting from the industrial revolution, when capitalism began to really gain steam (literally). Poverty slopes sharply downward, and for good reason. Improvements in efficiency, technology, and trade, all fueled by capitalism have led to massive improvement in the quality of human life over a surprisingly brief period of time. Half of the world is now middle class, something that was heretofore unthinkable. If the only way to end poverty is to end capitalism, as Teen Vogue claims, and incidentally teaches millions of impressionable teens, then why has the opposite done such a good job of proving itself to be true? It’s much fairer to say that the only way to end poverty is to end socialism, or to end corruption, or to stop mass dictatorship than it is to deride the economic system that has singlehandedly provided for the most human prosperity ever seen to this point. TeenVogue is a magazine that makes its money by telling teen girls which lipstick their favorite pop star thinks is in this season and selling ads for makeup, designer clothes, and TV shows. The prosperity of capitalism has allowed people the leisure to buy the sorts of products TeenVogue advertises; its entire model is a capitalist one. So, let’s not take them at their word in their hope to end capitalism. Link Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me. When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

I always wonder if these rocket scientists really understand what they are saying which would be evil or are just so stupid they shouldn't be allowed access to public forms of communication. They really have no clue.... How many colors of lipstick do they have in Venezuela....none they ate it all. It does reinforce that socialism is sneaky and you have to keep an eye out for it...everywhere, especially anything with any influence on your children.

So...since they're still in business trying to earn a profit, by their own standards they're in favor of poverty, I take it? Capitalism (the watered-down version we have, at least) has made it so that here, those in poverty are more likely to be overweight than to be starving. I wonder how the Ukrainians starving under Stalin between the wars feel about capitalism.....
