Ding, ding, ding. Winner.

Never had a burger that was better than I made myself.
+1

Prime grade ground beef smoked at 225 on my BGE with only salt and pepper as seasoning. No darn eggs or bread crumbs to turn it into meatloaf either.

Topped with a slice of a high quality cheese purchased from the deli.

I use ground chuck with a third by weight of Jimmy Dean sausage. I cook on indirect heat till the juices start to ooze out then finish over direct heat. I put on a slice of sharp cheddar and a slice of either Swiss or Provolone. All the condiments are on the side to add as you wish. I get a lot of compliments so I'm sticking with this recipe.

Jim

Putting cheese on a hamburger is like putting A1 sauce on a steak. It's the quickest way to ruin the flavor of good beef.

You can't truly call yourself "peaceful" unless you are capable of great violence. If you're not capable of great violence, you're not peaceful, you're harmless.

Gosh, thanks for sharing. Everyone in the world is wrong and you're right.

Happy now?

Lets get back to the subject of this thread.

Best i have had was back in the 1970s, there was place in Fort Walton called El Palacio, that had both restaurant and a bar. You had to go to the bar to order the "Mr. C Burger", was about 1/2 lb chopped sirloin with a little rib-eye for fat and sharp cheddar cheese.

That's a new one to me. Plain burgers without cheese are just boring.

Another vote for Roy's Big Burger in Lakeside - near Richmond. It's very near my GF's house.

It's just a little hole-in-the-wall with no inside seating:

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

I worked with his goalie coach while he was in Toronto. Eddie invited a bunch of us over to watch the boat races on the river from his house one weekend.

I have to be honest, there was nothing like Eddie tapping you on the shoulder and asking "Cheese? One slice or two?" as he is standing behind you grilling.

As far as the best I've ever had commercially, I'm an In-n-out fan.

I had In-n-out for the first time a couple of months ago in Dallas. My son refused to drive past one without stopping even though we were only a couple of hours since a very big breakfast. Had an Animal style cheeseburger and Animal style fries. Not quite addictive, but I'm an instant fan. The animal style fries seemed like overkill since I like them with ketchup just fine. By the time we finished them I understood. They're almost decadent.

I have to vote "old school Burger King, meaning 50 years ago.
Back when Burger Kings were popping up in the area. They had the broiler conveyor running the full length of the kitchen, you would watch YOUR burger run the gauntlet, smoking, sizzling, wrapped in flame, until it dropped at the end and was grabbed by the cook and put on a waiting GIANT bun. As big as the bun was it still was not big enough to hold the HUGE burger, and then the "special" sauce.
CHARCOAL FLAVOR, On the burger, in the restaurant, and for blocks around the Burger King.

There is a hole in the wall burger stand in south central springs called Short Stop.

They try to have a food truck at the racetrack(PPIR) most time attack events. I eat one or two every chance I get. Nothing really special about them, they are just done right. Maybe they just pair particularly well with burnt race tires and high octane exhaust.

I just got goosebumps.

That's too bad. It has been a while, though. I think I ate there 7 years ago. Oh, well.

In that case, I'll add Fat Mo's in Nashville, TN. I think they're still around.
