Townhall is live-blogging the hearing, complete with (often amusing, sometimes snarky, always on-target) observations.

Does 3 million seem like an insulting low bounty to anyone else? I would think that the bounty on a sitting president would be much higher. Seems if you were going to go through the hassles of putting a bounty on a foreign head of state you would at least make it high enough to get the full attention of the carazies. Its not like they would ever have to pay it out, why not make the bounty 30 Billion?

https://www.breitbart.com/poli...in-misquoting-trump/

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA), the lead House manager for the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump, played the same deceptively edited clip Tuesday in the Senate that Democrats used in the House Judiciary Committee last month, misquoting Trump as having claimed, that the Constitution gave him absolute power.

Update: Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) used the exact same deceptively-edited clip later in her own presentation.

As Breitbart News’ Charlie Spiering pointed out when Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) first misquoted the president as saying, “Article II says I can do whatever I want,” Trump had been specifically referring to the power to hire and fire executive officials, specifically Special Counsel Robert Mueller — whom he did not, in the end, fire.

Later, during House Judiciary Committee hearings, Democrat counsel Norm Eisen — ironically, once the “ethics” czar for President Barack Obama — used a deceptively edited clip of a speech Trump gave in July 2019 to the youth group Turning Point USA. The context, again, was the Mueller investigation — but Democrats edited that out of the video he presented to constitutional “expert” witness Noah Feldman, who participated with Eisen in the misleading charade

Despite being called out, by Breitbart News, for misquoting the president with a deceptively edited video, Schiff used the same Turning Point USA clip — plus another, similarly misleading clip — to claim, falsely, once again, that Trump believed he had absolute power under Article II of the Constitution and therefore had to be impeached for that reason.

I saw a clip of Trump's attorney calling Schiff out for it in his opening remarks.

https://townhall.com/tipsheet/...e-documents-n2559893

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer's (D-NY) proposed amendment to request documents from the White House regarding the decision to withhold military aid to Ukraine was voted down along party lines during the first day of the Senate impeachment trial into President Trump.

The Senate's trial is deliberating on the two articles of impeachment, abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, that was passed in a December partisan vote in the House.

The vote was 53-47, with no Republicans defecting.

Schumer tweeted before the vote if Senate Republicans will vote for a fair trial or "will they enable a cover-up?"

During the first round of speaking time, House Intelligence Committee Chairman and impeachment manager Adam Schiff (D-CA) said the Senate should call witnesses to the trial because if they do not, then they would be "kicking the can down the road."

Democrats in the House want the Senate to call on former National Security Advisor John Bolton, Acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney, Senior Adviser to the acting White House Chief of Staff Robert Blair and Office of Management and Budget official Michael Duffey as witnesses.

Anyone else get the feeling the term "cover up" is the most recent poll tested item the Dem's have developed. I'm already sick of hearing it.

CTH article explaining how Pelosi kept from taking impeachment votes, but that cost her the power of subpoena

https://theconservativetreehou...t-flaws/#more-181561

Last year House Democrat leadership took a climate assessment of democrat House members and Speaker Pelosi announced they would not hold a House impeachment authorization vote. As a direct and specific consequence all committee subpoenas did not carry a penalty for non-compliance.

“Lawful subpoenas”, literally require an enforcement mechanism; that’s the “poena” part of the word. The enforcement mechanism is a judicial penalty, and that penalty can only be created if the full House voted to authorize an impeachment inquiry, and charged the House Judiciary Committee with the authority therein.

Absent the vote to authorize, the Legislative Branch never established compulsion authority (aka judicial enforcement authority), as they attempted to work through their quasi-constitutional “impeachment inquiry” process.

Instead of subpoenas, Adam Schiff (House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence); and Chairman Eliot L. Engel (House Committee on Foreign Affairs) were only sending out request letters. The compliance was discretionary based on the outlook of the recipient.

Nancy Pelosi did not have the vote or political capital to start by initiating a full House impeachment authorization. Pelosi, Schiff, Engel and Cummings had to rely on the duplicity of the media to help them hide their scheme; and the media complied.

Speaker Pelosi & Lawfare’s impeachment scheme could only succeed with a compliant media protecting it. The media was entirely compliant in not explaining the fraudulent basis for the construct.

If the media would have ever asked questions the fraud would have collapsed.

Adam Schiff had to hide his hearings because the foundation of the impeachment fraud was to create a public impression. There was no structural impeachment process or guideline being followed. The committee leadership used the closed door hearings to leak information to the media to create a needed narrative.

Hey, easy, partner. Martha is a doll.

This trial in any case is already falling apart for the dems. They're going to get nothing in regards to their silly amendments.

article about Trump speech at Davos, Switzerland

whole thing is worth a read

https://www.powerlineblog.com/...in-the-lions-den.php

snips

We’ve regained our stride, we discovered our spirit and reawakened the powerful machinery of American enterprise. America is thriving, America is flourishing, and yes, America is winning again like never before.

When I took office three years ago, America’s economy was in a rather dismal state. Under the previous administration, nearly 200,000 manufacturing jobs had vanished, wages were flat or falling, almost 5 million more Americans had left the labor force than had gotten jobs, and more than 10 million people had been added to the food stamp rolls.

The experts predicted a decade of very, very slow growth — or even maybe negative growth — high unemployment, and a dwindling workforce, and very much a shrinking middle class. Millions of hardworking, ordinary citizens felt neglected, betrayed, forgotten. They were rapidly losing faith in the system.

Since my election, America has gained over 7 million jobs — a number unthinkable. … The projection was 2 million; we did 7 [million] — more than three times the government’s own projections.

The unemployment rate is now less than 3, 4, and 5 percent. And at 3.5 percent, that’s a number that is the lowest in more than 50 years. The average unemployment rate for my administration is the lowest for any U.S. President in recorded history. We started off with reasonably high rate.

For the first time in decades, we are no longer simply concentrating wealth in the hands of a few. We’re concentrating and creating the most inclusive economy ever to exist. We are lifting up Americans of every race, color, religion, and creed.

Unemployment rates among African Americans, Hispanic Americans, and Asian Americans have all reached record lows. African American youth unemployment has reached the lowest it’s ever been in the history of our country. African American poverty has plummeted to the lowest rate ever recorded. The unemployment rate for women reached the lowest level since 1953. …
The unemployment rate for veterans has dropped to a record low. The unemployment rate for disabled Americans has reached an all-time record low. Workers without a high school diploma have achieved the lowest unemployment rate recorded in U.S. history. Wages are rising across the board. And those at the bottom of the income ladder are enjoying the percentage, by far, largest gains.

Workers’ wages are now growing faster than management wages. Earnings growth for the bottom 10 percent is outpacing the top 10 percent — something that has not happened. Paychecks for high school graduates are rising faster than for college graduates.

....

To protect our security and our economy, we are also boldly embracing American energy independence. The United States is now, by far, the number-one producer of oil and natural gas anywhere in the world, by far. It’s not even close.

While many European countries struggle with crippling energy costs, the American energy revolution is saving American families $2,500 every year in lowering electric bills and numbers that people said couldn’t happen, and also, very importantly, prices at the pump.

We will never let radical socialists destroy our economy, wreck our country, or eradicate our liberty. America will always be the proud, strong, and unyielding bastion of freedom.

In America, we understand what the pessimists refuse to see: that a growing and vibrant market economy focused on the future lifts the human spirit and excites creativity strong enough to overcome any challenge — any challenge by far.

BREAKING: New Documents Show Democrat Adam Schiff Mischaracterized Evidence In Impeachment, Report Suggests

A new report on Tuesday night alleges that House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) appears to have “mischaracterized” evidence that was used in House Democrats’ impeachment investigation.

The problem stems from a letter that Schiff sent to House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) last week that summarizes “a trove of evidence from Lev Parnas, an indicted former associate of Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani,” Politico reported. “In one section of the letter, Schiff claims that Parnas ‘continued to try to arrange a meeting with President Zelensky,’ citing a specific text message exchange where Parnas tells Giuliani: ‘trying to get us mr Z.’ The remainder of the exchange — which was attached to Schiff’s letter — was redacted.”
