tleddyFrom the Wall Street Journal today:
https://www.wsj.com/opinion/ca...d_pos1&mod=djemMER_hFAIR now covers about half a million homeowners who can’t obtain private coverage. Its exposure has ballooned to $458 billion as of last September from $153 billion four years earlier, with $5.9 billion in exposure in the Palisades. Yet it has only about $700 million cash on hand to pay claims.
FAIR is the State of California home insurer! I hope the last sentence is incorrect, indicating only $700 million in cash to pay claims!
If the statement is indeed true, the California taxpayers are on the hook for $457 BILLION in liability! The 2025 State budget is $322 Billion; the article has an estimate for the Palisade’s alone at $5.9 Billion - the actual exposure could potentially bankrupt the State!
Can anyone on the Forum support the WSJ figures?

The numbers agree with what I’ve read and viewed; HOWEVER…
… It’s not the rest of the story.
If FAIR

runs out of cash, they impose a levy of up to $1B (IIRC) collectively on every private insurer, and if that isn’t enough money, on EVERY HOLDER OF INSURANCE IN CALIFORNIA.
Go ahead and do that you Commie idiots.

I have a feeling the rest of us will be paying most of this, one way or another.

smschulz^^^ Exactly right, it won't be long before we have to pay. You can count on that.

Rick LeeI can't imagine any insurer is going to just roll over and cough up $1 billion to CA because CA says they have to. That's going to be an epic court battle and drag on for years .... while more insurers flee the state.
