This will not happen.
Number one- Gaetz used to be DeSantis' campaign manager/advisor in his 2018 run for the governorship and a close friend, and Gaetz backed Trump all the way since 2023, and not his friend DeSantis. And number two- DeSantis wants that senate seat, he knows his chances at a 2028 presidential run has been exhausted, especially with Vance now as VP. His governorship is done after 2026, termed out after two consecutive terms, with no other place to go in the state of Florida. He appoints a "placeholder" senator for the next two years, a special election kicks in for the Rubio seat in 2026, just in time for DeSantis to run.
