Good morning all...

I am officiating the Women's ASC Tennis Championships at the end of April; matches will be held at UT-Dallas. I don't know the Dallas area AT ALL and could use some help deciding where to stay. Not which hotel, per se, but which areas of town to consider and which to avoid. I don't know where the slums and hoods are located in relation to UT-Dallas...I'd prefer to stay at a place where I don't have to sleep with a 9 under my pillow for three nights and do combat rolls every morning using cover and concealment just to get to the car.

Thanks in advance!!

Nestled between Addison, Richardson & Plano, the UTD campus area is relatively safe area.

I would stay at one of the hotels on Bush in Plano. 1705 or 1805 E President George Bush Hwy, Plano, TX.

The Wal-Mart, Sams, Central Market and fast food places around Coit and Bush are all good to go.

The only area I wouldn't hang around long is around Coit and McCallum where students live off campus. It's not a slum but look at the Google reviews of the apartments and you'll see.

Also, I'm not sure if they still have it but the UTD library has lots of aviation related displays, etc.

Don't live in the area, much less Texas itself, but visited a buddy for a week last month. Plano and The Colony areas are very nice. If you get any free time, go to the new Scholls sporting good mega store in Plano. It is mind blowing.

I had to stay at my friend's house in Garland during my visit. I'd avoid that area and the whole east side due to traffic jams, car wrecks and tons of roadway construction taking place.

Enjoy your stay. Texans are great folks!

My son graduated from UT Dallas, very nice campus. Basically an engineering school. It is located in Richardson, a good area. Plano is nice, plenty of great restaurants, anything you want to eat, they have.

If you like Indian, Middle Eastern or authentic Chinese food, you will be just around the corner from a lot of good restaurants in Richardson. Great ethnic grocery stores too. Sara Market (Lebanese), India Bazaar, Indo-Pak, and there is a Chinese/Vietnamese one in Chinatown DFW (off Central and Beltline) on Greenville Ave.) but I don’t remember the name of it.

The cities that surround UT Dallas, Richardson, Plano and Addison have lots of affluent neighborhoods. It's about as safe as a metro area can be. There are several nice hotels nearby along the Dallas North Tollway.

Give us a heads-up when you come and maybe we can arrange a FTF. Lots of SF folks here in DFW. Will you be alone, or have family with you? I'd be happy to take you to dinner someplace.

South is about the only direction to find trouble from that location.

You're just down the road from me, we live in far north Garland off G Bush east of 75. Right across 190 is Silver Fox steak house, it's our go-to anniversary spot, highly recommend. If you have free time there's a museum at the Addison Aiport: https://cavflight.org/

Also the museum at Love Field is pretty good too: https://www.flightmuseum.com/

And if you want to get your shooting on this place https://missionridgedfw.com/ is a couple miles west of you. Haven't been yet, just opened in the last year or so maybe but hear it's quite nice.

Thanks, flash! It'll be just me. I'm driving up the afternoon of 27-APR with matches starting the next morning. If there is a Dallas contingent that can get together, that would be coolio! I will contact when I get settled in the hotel. Cool

As previously mentioned Scheels in The Colony is worth seeing. Just south of Scheels is Cigars International if you want to unwind with a cocktail and a stogie.

Your dates are right in the middle of a 9-day trip so I won't be able to make any meetups but enjoy your stay!

Just stay anywhere in North Richardson (definitely not South Richardson) or Plano, along George Bush Tollway. You'll be fine.

I'm down to attend for the women's matches Big Grin
