Told cops where to go for over 29 years… |
We’ve been with Comcast for decades. Love/hate relationship, but tired of the annual dance to keep price from skyrocketing and with recent internet options being added in my area (Ziply Fiber) I think I have finally decided to dump them for other options. Currently we have 1G internet, the “popular” channel package with some movie channels (which we don’t really use), and home security. With Jan 2023 price increases, we are looking at over $250/month. Ziply fiber just installed in the area and can provide 1G speed for $60/month and it looks like I can get TV service from either Dish or DirecTV for roughly $80-90/mo. Combined, that would be saving me around $100 month so I have pretty much decided to make the change. Only real question is trying to decide between Dish and DirecTV. Of course each claims to be better than the other for various reasons. DirecTV pushes sports harder, but I have zero interest in sports. Dish seems to have a longer price guarantee period (3 years vs 2) Looking for input from folks with experience using Ziply, Dish, and DirecTV. Happy, not happy? Info much appreciated What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand???

Get the Fiber, Use your "smart tv" or a streaming service Like Ruku or Fire ect, then subscribe to the pay channels of your choice. Use OTA for local news and programing “Let us dare to read, think, speak and write.” John Adams

I have had Direct TV for years. I did not let them put the dish on the roof for obvious reasons. They recently added a streaming function.{When it rained hard no reception for a time} Now it automatically goes to streaming so you miss nothing.

It is not a Love/Hate relationship it is more like a Hate/Hate relationship. I hated cable so I signed up for Direct TV (10 year subscriber). I found out I hated Direct TV even more than cable; now I am back to cable for the last 10 years. My suggestion is to never get satellite TV for any reason, too many things can go wrong, even more than cable. Price always is bad, Satellite or Cable. Service varies from barely acceptable to downright terrible. It seems as if you have to accept high costs and poor service as the price of having any sort of cable and internet communication. It is hard to think of any service other than the local newspaper and government at any level that engenders such feeling of dislike.

Get my pies outta the oven! |
We ditched Comcast for fiber internet and YouTubeTV back in May of 2022. I researched the various streaming TV services and got lots of recommendations here for YTTV so we went with that. So far it’s been pretty good, $68/month

I had Directv satellite for probably 20 years. I didn’t really like it, but it was the best option we had. I was paying probably $160 a month for it. Now that I have better internet I switched to Directv stream. I could not be more happy! I pay $68 a month for 75 channels and unlimited recording storage. No receivers on TVs anymore. I use Amazon Firestick on each TV to get it along with other streaming channels I get. I can watch on a TV or on my iPad from anywhere even away from home. These are things I couldn’t do before and for half the price. I am super happy. For streaming I use Directv stream, Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, Amazon Prime, and and a few others all via Firestick or my iPad. NRA Benefactor Life Member

THANK YOU FOR THIS! I didn’t even know that was an option and it seems like it is a much better fit at lower cost than the Dish/DirecTV options. Added benefit of multiple users/streams, ability to watch everything on iPad and multiple TV’s without additional costs and MOST importantly, it seems to offer the majority of the stuff my wife is interested in. Just signed up for the free two week trial, will use it exclusively over the next couple days and see if the shine stays. What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand???

911Boss, you will really like YTTV. The DVR functions are seamless. I watch a lot on my iPad these days. Also… you can add family members to your account at no charge (up to six, IIRC). We have my mom on our account, saves her money.

unless they have changed (doubtful)... The only reason I'm with a major TV service is for sports. Here in Colorado Altitude TV is a local station owned by the Kronke family who owns the Avalanche. Comcast and Dish refuse to allow Altitude TV on their packages. If sports is important to you do a little research and make sure you can get what you like on whatever you decide. _________________________ OH, Bonnie McMurray!

As mentioned no need for satellite tv. I use Fubo for live tv streaming and it’s fine. I also have 1G internet for $80 through Comcast. No tv from them. These go to eleven.

I've had DirecTV pretty much since they started in the 90s. Very happy with their programming and reliability of the signal. Don't know about customer service as I've never used it.

Another YouTube TV user here. We still use comcast for our internet, however between the 2 services we are around $110 a month. I used to work for Dish. When I left I switched to Direct TV and could not stand the UI on their receiver. After a year was up we moved back to Dish for 2 years. Once that price went up we jumped off and moved to YouTube TV around a year ago. We aren't missing anything and still have local services along with the DVR capability, but with no storage limitations. I don't foresee us using any hard line service again.

If you can get just internet service, do that and get one of the streaming services that replicates cable tv. I use YouTube TV. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Thank you Very little |
DirecTV is our service, it's been pretty good, even during Hurricanes we've had reception, some storms knock it out but you can switch over to a lower res option it give you and it streams. Have it mostly for the DVR, can't stand commercials and now all shows have way to many. Never had Dish so can't comment on it...

Fire begets Fire |
Last year we dropped Comcast and picked up Ziply fiber. We also got their wireless mesh system inside the house. We use YouTube TV for television, and of course all the other apps that you want in your portfolio. I will say the quality of signal was far better on YouTube TV than Comcast, which JPEG’s the crap out of the signal. YouTube TV has a function where it works much like a DVR recording all the content and storing the links as long as you need. I “record “football games, watching the on our delay, so I don’t have to put up with the commercials. Works great. We actually use an 4k Apple device for the hardware. Internet is about the same, perhaps a little faster but it was much cheaper overall vs. the Comcast bill by far. You’re going to love it. It’s really great. There’s probably 10 people I know who also now have it after seeing it at my house / on my devices. _______________ Mind. Over. Matter.
