Sig Forum members I'm the immediate Pass Communications Officer for the East Coast Chapter Tuskegee Airmen,Inc.
And I'm sad to announce the passing of Brigadier General McGee, I knew him personally and he truly is an American Hero.

He was very humble and always gave credit to the men that did not come back.

On his 100th birthday, he took off from the D.C. area flew to Pennsylvania landed held a news conference had lunch and did the return trip!

Wow, RIP McGee. Is he the last Redtail?

In the mid-90s I was at an event in a hotel and during a break, wandered into another (open to the public) event room and it turned out to be the Tuskegee Airmen reunion. Wow - meeting a few of these guys, and just talking to them for a few minutes, including BG McGee. I'll never forget that.

RIP Brigadier General McGee. Thank God we have / had men of your stature serving this country.

Ten times more than many of his generation! I'm in awe of this man and his achievements in the cause of freedom.

I've watched 'Redtails' a number of times, and never ceased to be moved by it all, but it reminds me of my time in Germany in a RAF recce jet squadron, where I was the OPSO. Our sister squadron of the Royal Netherlands AF [RNAF] had two of our pilots on loan, as we had two of theirs. This was a great idea, as they were flying F-16s, and we were flying Jaguars and then Tornado's. Our two pilots, however, were both black, one from Mauritius and other from Bélize. They always referred to their host squadron as the only black squadron in the RNAF, which incidentally had a large component of non-blacks, just to even things up.
