I had to drive up to my Insurence Company yesterday to pay in person. Didn't get the payment out in the Mail. I used my phones Nav feature. This morning I was looking up the address of a company I interview at which is about 1/4 mile up the road from my Insurence Company. Taking notice of its location there is a little blue marker in the parking lot of Amica Mutual which shows, You parked here. How cool is that ? I'm all the time doing online reviews for Google Maps so they always know where I am.

In one way, very cool. In another, very scary in an Orwellian fashion.

And your may (will) get requests for reviews of the place noted? All for the advertising dollars.
I live in the Black Hills so everytime we got out this happens. And they do not like you to say "too fucking cold and snowy, come on spring!"

I think it's desensitizing people as to what's personal information and what's not. So the accepted norm is "Apps track your every movement". Instead of "What I do is personal and private"= None of your business.

I am of a similar mindset. If these apps stated that your personal info will remain unto you (unless you checked a box allowing otherwise)than I have little to no trouble with that. But the apps all seem to work with, off of, each other and even if the promise of not saving anything you say or save or access, I do not trust any of the biggies to tell the truth.

They know a lot more then just that, they know if your on foot, how long you stayed in the adult book store they know your shopping habits, they know your travel habits your usual routes, your speed at a particular time and location, your habits you go to the gym between 0630 and 0830 M T F, your history on watching YouTube videos. I also see that even if you turn your phone off it stores data that as soon as you turn on your phone it will upload that data. What your shopping for on the Internet. Looking at where you go on the Internet they can determine what your ideology is. If I go and watch Hickok45 subscribe to his videos do the same thing on drones, Louder by Crowder, etc. videos on YouTube they can determine my ideology. I don’t subscribe to leftists because I don’t want to listen to their BS...all of this information can and is bought for advertising, political, private detectives repo companies, anyone who is willing to pay for it. Same thing goes for social media companies. Another problem is when they want to limit a group of people...let’s say they don’t like the ideology of people who are “purple” they are limiting the speech or followers ability to see the content. Google, YouTube, Facebook, Patreon, Microsoft, Twitter, Instagram...the power of these companies and what they are capable of is very scary!
Note there is no tin foil on my head, car, or motorhome. This is what our world has become and a very high price we are paying for technology, Internet all under the blanket of convenience.

I wonder if one way to discourage tracking is to always give negative reviews of Google's target customers (potential advertisers)? Seems like it might get you on a "we don't want this guy" list.

I had AAA draw me up a map once, instead of looking it up by hand they printed it off Google Maps. I had to get to a hotel on the far side of Atlanta. For reasons I have never understood by following the map I got off of I-20 and took a trip through the HOOD and eventually was instructed to get back on I-20 until the exit where my hotel was located. Going home I got on I-20 having thrown the map in the trash.

If Google is sooo smart....why does my phone keep telling me the weather in a city 300 miles away that I was in three weeks ago? I tried telling my phone that it was home and that I needed the weather for here again, but no one hears.....or listens. Maybe I should turn on the location stuff again?
Also, Google maps give directions to my house using a 4WD trail. Bing uses real, county roads.

More than likely there was a slowdown or stoppage on the freeway when they printed the map. All the major players take real time traffic into account and will reroute you based actual traffic at that time based on how long it takes to get to the location, not distance traveled or ease of route.

Yes, if you’ve had location services off since then the apps don’t know where you are (don’t mistake that to mean that you can’t be tracked by anyone with access (or the proper warrants). Turn it back on and your location will update.
As far as the 4wd trail, that provider needs to update their map. That’s all. There is probably a fairly easy way to report the inaccuracy, if you care to.

Pretty sure I am no where near important enough that anybody cares whatsoever where I am.
If I really have a “need” for complete privacy at some point, I suppose I can turn the phone off, pull the SIM card, put them in separate faraday cages at two different locations and use cash for the day while wearing dark glasses and a wide brimmed hat, keeping my head down and taking nothing but right hand turns.
That way “the man” will never know I bought toilet paper, six cucumbers, red jello, and only one banana.
What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand???

I really dislike Google maps.
It wants to take me thru neighborhood streets instead of staying on the main road.
Of course we will save 2 tenths of a mile if we do...

Also track your respiratory rate, pulse, striding cadence, GPS location and when you stop so the dog can poop on the neighbor's front lawn.
