Home now after a 4 day trip to Texas. Went down for a factory tour and related engineering discussion in Tyler then spent the rest of the time exploring. Stayed near the Stockyards in Ft. Worth. Toured AT&T stadium and was impressed with the engineering and beauty of it. Ate at many fine places but Hurtado BBQ in Arlington was one of my favorites. I met many fine folks, everyone was so laid back and polite. HAd some great conversations about New Yorkistan vs. Texas; folks could not believe the situation in NY. Did some shooting in Grapevine. I was constantly on the go and it went by quick, but it was one of the best times I've had. Texas, I love ya!

My son lives in Ft Worth. I love visiting him, love the folks, love the food, I'm iffy on the weather, but hate the fucking drivers. Same thing goes for Houston. We're going to visit San Antonio in the fall. The folks we've met there seem a lot like my Utah friends (down to earth), the foods way better, but the scenery? Well, I've heard it's an acquired taste Big Grin Not ugly but a far cry from my home state. Overall I would rate Texas as a top notch place to visit.

Well Q, that is a topic myself and Mrs. chbibc will be discussing at length. My parents are deceased, hers are not and they live close to us. As they age we are spending more time looking after them so for now we're staying put.

I'm in CA right now [Bakersfield & Tehachapi] luckily in one of the more TX-like areas of CA [pretty conservative]

Missing TX already. Seeing near $6/gal outside LAX for gas, when we're paying 2.84/gal at home, sucks.

In the early 80's I had an office In Southlake, North of DFW, used to go to the Grapevine Steak House(?). Great bar, red and white checkered table cloths, dancing and lots of ladies.....is it still there ?

Did you go shooting at The Texas Gun Experience in Grapevine? That is a nice facility.

Glad you had a good visit.

No power issues while in Tyler? Some were out for quite a few days after the 70mph wind wreaked havoc on the tree. Finally a few days here now without any rain

The factory (Tyler Pipe) had lost power the day before we were there, but was back up and running when we arrived.

My answer would be to get them to move with you. When my mother in law was still alive ( great lady - I have zero bad mother in law stories) and my bride and I were looking to move, I would have brought her with us, and I am certain she would have jumped on board.
As a NY refugee myself ( western NY south of Buffalo) I encourage everyone of a like mind to get out, sooner rather than later. I have little sympathy for people that will complain but then give loads of excuses why they can not move.

I'm glad you enjoyed your stay in Texas. I have been a resident of Grapevine for over 30 yrs and have yet to visit the gun range you shot at. It's about 5 minutes from my house.

I worked at another McWane subsidiary after college. Remember the Tyler casting mark quite well.

Please tell me while in Tyler you went to Stanley's Famous?!? If not, definitely do next time.

During our 7 years in McKinney we toured a lot of the state with the objective of hitting as many BBQ joints as possible. Stanley's was in the top 5. Also, no matter how much traditional 'que and ribs you sample there, DO get the Cadillac Clucker chicken sandwich. I know, nobody gets a chicken sandwich at a TX BBQ joint. UNLESS they've been to Stanley's. Then, say, they move to MS but figure out how to replicate it as close as possible two states away!!! Razz
