Saw a tree today that I have never seen before. Planted as an ornamental plant,8' tall and heavy with red (fruit) a little larger than a fireball candy and just smaller than a pingpong ball. Rough and looking like the covid ball crossed with a raspberry.

Chinese Rain Tree?

Kousa dogwood also called a Japanese Strawberry tree. When the fruit falls, they will ferment and the drunk chipmunks are fun to watch. Bees are attracted to the fallen fruit. Absolutely beautiful when in full bloom with huge white flowers.

I have an app called “Picture This” and I love it. Take a picture of a tree or any plant and it will tell you exactly what it is. Free app worth the download.

Sure enough.

I have one in my yard, and I noticed one in the yard at work today. Coincidentally, our landscaper was on-site today and I asked him about it. "Kousa dogwood," he said.

God bless America.

Last place I lived it was a very popular landscaping tree and they were everywhere. Yellow jackets *really* like the fruit too, which made for fun times when the fruit were dropping everywhere.

There's a different tree called just "strawberry tree" that is a common small ornamental.
