My son has been offered a job at Offutt AFB. If things work out, the family will relocate from Fredericksburg, VA. A couple guys he's spoken with mentioned LaVista and Papillion as neighborhoods convenient to the base. Does anyone have advice or opinions about the area and housing options?

Bellevue, NE. The base is right there. Papillion is nice La Vista is nice, but when the Snow of November hit, the closer, the better.
I moved from Bellevue in 2006. It has continued to grow.

If I see my father in law anytime soon I will ask him. I know he has been there semi recently

My wife grew up some there on Offut...but that was in the 70s. Her info probably isn’t great Wink. Her dad was in the USAF for 33 years and still works as a contractor

I was stationed at Offutt from 1996-2004. I lived in Bellevue all that time. Both my wife and I loved it. Being close to base is nice in winter weather, especially since I was "Essential Personnel" for 5 of those years (meaning, I came to work on time regardless of weather delays or closures).

Make sure you dont buy a house in a flood plain.

Bellevue is close well, the base is in Bellevue. Bellevue is nice. Papillion and LaVista are nice and really growing fast. Ralston is in between Bellevue and the others. It is landlocked so it can’t grow anymore. Ralston is a pretty nice town as well.

If he doesn’t mind driving a little more Gretna and Elkhorn are really nice smaller cities. All are tied in with major highways/thoroughfares/interstates which they do a pretty good job of keeping open.

Right now a good portion of Offutt is underwater or now in the beginnings of the process of cleaning up from the flooding.

Good luck in his move and thanks for his service. Omaha and the area is a good place to be.
