I've been following DBD for years and have always found it to be on target and aligned with the conservative agenda.

Either I'm too stupid to get the satire or things are changing and not in a good way.
Today's Strip in particular and the last few days in general seem to be pretty viciously anti-semitic.

Has he gone off the deep end or am I missing the point?

My vote is deep end.

It’s hard for me to follow his characters and how they reflect the cartoonist’s personal views, but at one time I just stopped following the strip because of something that was equally ... bizarre. I no longer recall exactly what it was, but then I didn’t have any question that it was his own position. I’ve gone back to checking it, but only because of the principle of its being good to know what some people with a following are thinking and saying.

I wonder, though, how other members interpret what’s going on in the strip this time because I’m not certain I understand it correctly.

Added: With how polarized the country has become—and I’ll blame the Left without hesitation for starting it—have we gotten to the point that people with followers on both sides now feel that they can express any opinion, no matter what, that pops into their heads and they won’t lose any supporters because of it?
I.e., “Oh, yeah, I’m sure he’s right”? Roll Eyes

Is the cartoon factual? If so, that is terrible and should be viewed as a problem that needs to be fixed. America should be the priority of those folks and dual citizenship with anywhere else clouds that.

When I was a kid, I enjoyed reading old Doonesbury cartoons. As an adult I tried to catch up, but 1) the politics didn't agree with me, and 2) the 'cast' had gotten huge and there was no way I could try and catch up on what happened.

I seem to recall reading DBD on this forum?? But back then it was just the two couples, and I think Zed's wife had just had a kid. Now there seems to be a ton of them, Damon is missing, and the art seems...weird.

Is this a serious question?

Think about it if there were congresswoman with dual citizenship don't you think someone, just once would bring up the question of loyalty during campaigning?

We do have space lasers though, those are 100% true.

Yeah, there is NO WAY those 'stats' are correct. I don't know if that is from the artist, or if he was hacked, or if it's a fake site/mis-directed URL.

That "OMG THE JEWZ!!!!" crap was old in 1935. There is NO PLACE for that in 2025.

If that is really from the artist, he is dead to me. I despise anti-semitism. Go back to palestine if you hate them so much.

I don't follow it... but OMG! Off the deep end.

I'm noticing a lot of the anti-semitic stuff recently, particularly from the young adult crowd. Many of these young adults believe that Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinians and that the US is captured by Israel.
It's stupid. I don't know where they get their mis-information, but they believe it.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

The stats appear to be based on one of those "OMG! Look at what's happening now!" emails.

Since the cartoon appears to be part of a series, maybe the artist going somewhere with it that wouldn't be anti-semitic. If that's not the case, then ya, screw him.

Uncle Duke (based on Hunter Thompson) was always the best Doonesbury character.

I don’t know how to describe what such a question here demonstrates, but it demonstrates it very well.

Satire is supposed to be on recent or current events, not on perpetuating conspiracy tropes.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

I emailed the author of that cartoon a number of years ago. I don't remember the conversation, really, but I do remember we had a very nice back-and-forth conversation. He was very willing to discuss whatever my question was.

God bless America.

I asked Grok (X's AI) about the statistic quoted of 75% of Congress, half of military holding dual US-Israeli citizenship.

quote:
Analysis of Congress Members

The claim that 75% of Congress members hold dual US-Israel citizenship is not supported by evidence. Fact-checking by PolitiFact addressed a similar claim of 89% dual citizenship, labeling it false and tracing it to conspiracy sites like Prepare For Change. Snopes also debunked such lists, noting that Jewish members of Congress do not automatically have Israeli citizenship, as it requires active naturalization under Israeli law.

Statistical data shows that as of 2025, there are 10 Jewish senators and 24 Jewish members of the House, according to Wikipedia. However, dual citizenship isn’t reported for these members, and Quora answers suggest no known cases of Congress members with dual US-Israel citizenship. The Times of Israel notes Congress is 6% Jewish compared to 2% of the US population, but this doesn’t correlate with dual citizenship rates.

A proposed Dual Citizenship Disclosure Act (H.R.7484) in the 118th Congress (Congress.gov) suggests interest in transparency, but it doesn’t confirm high dual citizenship rates. Given the lack of credible data and debunking by fact-checkers, the claim appears to be misinformation.

Analysis of Military Personnel

The claim that half of US military personnel hold dual US-Israel citizenship is equally unsupported. No official statistics from USCIS or the Department of Defense provide such data. Discussions on platforms like Quora and Reddit focus on dual citizenship implications, such as mandatory Israeli military service for dual citizens (WRAI) or security clearance issues for US military officers (Quora).

Legal documents, such as those from the Library of Congress (LOC), discuss dual nationality but don’t quantify percentages for military personnel. An article from Fort Bliss (Army) highlights complexities for dual citizens in the military, but again, no data suggests half hold dual US-Israel citizenship. Boundless Immigration notes dual citizens may face military service obligations, but this is case-specific, not indicative of a 50% rate.

Estimates suggest about 10% of Israel’s population has dual citizenship (Dual Citizenship Report), but this doesn’t translate to US military personnel. Given the lack of evidence and focus on legal obligations rather than proportions, the claim is likely false.

Thanks for that, sjtill. The claim was ridiculous on its face, but if anyone seriously thought it could be correct, it’s amazing what a little actual research can reveal. Roll Eyes

I'm not familiar with this cartoon, but looking at the link, I would not be interested in anything the writer has to say. He is either antisemitic, or he is attempting a very offbeat method to satirize what the Left has been saying about the US-Israeli connection for a long time. In any case, he is misguided.

I've said it here before, but since Obama became President, it has felt increasingly like 1930s Germany combined with 1910s Russia. Jews (at least observant Jews) are increasingly being marginalized, along with conservatives, and anyone who is not in lock step with the Left. We had a reprieve from 2017 to 2020 with President Trump, and I believe we are about to turn this around with the President, but these hardcore Leftists thought they tasted victory and they will not go away quietly.
