I recently came across a VERY low mile Honda Grom at a good price. I am thinking scooping it up. I’ve heard they are pretty fun and I do have a thing for bikes with tiny motors. Anyone here got one? I found a bolt on turbo kit somone makes for the bike that isn’t that expensive.

Those are very popular with the dope dealers around here. All of them seemed to like them and were quite upset when they got seized during the search warrants.

All this time, I thought it was called a Gromp. But, no, I don't own or have ever ridden one.

Last demo ride I went on, a guy had one with dirt tires and it looked like absolute fun. I'd own one in a heart beat if I were riding around a college campus or in town. My daughter is already planning on getting one for when she goes. I say if it's cheap, why not!

No, but I want one. Would be a fun little thing to run around town on/hit the beach.

My brother has one at our shop and it is fun to ride in the city. He has worked over the suspension and driveline. Everywhere it goes, someone always asks if it is for sale. It is light enough that it can just be picked up and carried away.

Do you guys think it’s a good bike to teach new riders? I have a few friends who have expressed interest in riding and I don’t exactly want to teach em to ride on a rare Honda CB-1, a SV650 or a YZF-R1. I think it would be a neat little machine for around town riding and teaching friends to ride. There is a Grom gang I see riding around Winston Salem. I almost always see one person in the group doing a wheelie.

My buddy bought one for a track bike to screw around on race days. He liked it so much he put a bigger bolt in engine in it and rides it as much or more than his Ducati.

I don't even ride - but isn't the much smaller wheel size an entirely different and much more difficult to control design over speeds of just above a run?

I laugh at people on these little bikes. World needs organ donors I guess.

They look like an absolute blast to ride. There is a big aftermarket for them so you won't get bored. I say go for it.

Probably make a great learner bike. Also as something to throw in the truck to take camping, to the races as a pit bike, etc. For a diminutive motorcycle it is surprisingly roomy for an average size adult.
I considered buying one or the Kawasaki version (I forget what it's called) but after talking with a couple people that owned them passed. They said they were ok on level but just too underpowered around here because of the hills.
Also be a little careful stopping very hard with the front brake because they can go over on you.

Ridewv, I’m thinking for teaching the basics, starting and stopping and learning the controls the tiny little thing should work pretty well. My biggest fear would be one of my friends doing this on my SV650 or CB-1. She launched something into orbit during that crash.

I have never been on one. Everyone I know who has though has absolutely loved it. I'm tempted to get one just to keep in the back of the Jeep.

Yeah, it would be just fine to learn the basics on. Not much smaller than the TW200 I rode in my basic course. You are just teaching them low speed stuff, turning, shifting, stopping etc.

It would be a lot of fun too!

I chose a ZUMA 125 over it. Lots of mods available for it.

A Grom should make a great starter bike, might even gear it down a tooth on the front for beginners.

That clip was hard to watch, poor girl. In my experience the biggest challenge for beginning riders now is learning to use a clutch (all the girl in the video had to do is pull the clutch in) so that's what I focus on first. Let the clutch out gently, get the bike moving, then pull the clutch in and stop. Repeat, repeat, repeat,...
It wasn't like this back when everyone was familiar with using a clutch be it in a car, lawn tractor, anything, once you get the feel for how a clutch engages they're all basically the same. Today the majority of young people have never used a clutch and I think for them it's best to learn to use a clutch in a car or truck first, then start on a motorcycle.
