Ever get the feeling you're surrounded by stupid/lazy/incompetent people?

EdmondEver get the feeling you're surrounded by stupid/lazy/incompetent people?
Maybe it's just me but it seems stupid/lazy/incompetent people outnumber the decent, hardworking people.
I'm on active duty but it will end shortly (not short enough) and we have a guy who is a captain who is the laziest sack of shit I've ever met in my life. 15 years in service, never deployed, collects disability for something and is now trying to game the system to get 100% with (imaginary) PTSD so he doesn't have to pay property tax. Came here and was constantly asking our boss for time off to do nursing school online. How the hell someone does nursing school online is beyond me. Refused to go to military schooling because "I have to focus on nursing school." Did you come here to go to nursing school or work?
The huge kicker is that he asked for time off next week to get his car painted, that's the lazy part. The stupid part is that it's a 12 year old Toyota Corolla. When I asked him why he's spending so much money on an old car, he said because if he goes to trade it in, they'll give him more. Now to the incompetent part, he's stupid so they don't give any tasks to him. I told him today that I know he's doesn't like working but that's why we're here. This dipshit actually said, "I complete all the tasks assigned to me but I don't have any tasks assigned to me."
The longer I'm in the Army, the more I'm starting to see some people, those who are lifelong reservists who have never deployed despite being post-9/11 "veterans", treat the military as a means of welfare.
In the civilian world, your stupidity/laziness/incompetence simply gets you fired. Fired as in you don't get a paycheck anymore. In the military, being fired means they move you to a position with less work and less responsibility.

konata88Generally agree but when part of a team, somebody has to pick up the slack until the person can be reassigned and replaced. It’s too easy to get a job here. Unlike say Korea where you fight to go to college and then fight to get a job (and lucky if you do) and then do everything you can to hold onto to the job because it hard to get another one.

LS1 GTOLol - have a guy where I work who is so phenomenally obstinate, he has mastered obstinance at every level and for any topic.
Thank goodness he's retiring this summer.

DakorALL THE TIME.
Lazy, incompetent boobs exist in the civilian world - trust me. Look up a thread I started on Human Resources, which is a deep cesspool of such talent.
I've found the bigger the organization, the number of such people multiply. It's like they find holes to hide in, until the donuts come out. The U.S. Federal Government, which is the world's largest employer bar none, is a classic example... few worker bees and lots of lazy fucks (please note, I'm not including the military in this statement).

EdmondI think it was here I read that HR is neither human nor a resource.

YooperSigsI have noticed the same thing. And it seems to be increasing. Or I just notice it more. And ordinary common sense seems to have vanished, too.

Seriously though, I made a post nearly identical to yours and then decided to delete it as it was very harsh wording.
Bottom line, I agree with you and see it every day. I'm simply trying to ignore it until I can retire.

honestlouThe better question is does anyone ever NOT feel like that? If so, please tell me about it, because I want to move there.

at its worst, the military reveals a lot of the evils of socialism

sourdough44Speaking of military. I know a person who went through a few WEEKS of basic training before she started out processing for a medical reason.
She now collects some level of ‘disability’, claims PTSD too. She has the ‘disabled Vet’ plate & all.

LeemurWe had a guy (not in my department, I would’ve blown a fuse) leave early one day for a hair appointment. Then he called out for two days. Then he asked if he could make up his time later in the week. Because he’s broke.

This. I started feeling a lot better about life when I decided to stop minding everyone else’s business.

jbcummingsIt’s called the 80/20 rule. Only 20% will be doers. Although I’d admit 20% sounds optimistic sometimes.

Flash-LBMost of the stupid/incompetent people work in the public sector as they'd never make it in the private sector.
There are exceptions, of course, but not that many.
