YouTube Terminates Channel of Firearms Parts Retailer
National Review Mairead McCardle
YouTube suddenly terminated the channel for the firearms parts company Brownells, the company claimed on Saturday.
“Brownells’ YouTube channel has been terminated without warning or notice,” Brownells’ Twitter account stated.
The 80-year-old gun supplies company reached out to followers on social media, asking them to contact Google, which owns YouTube, about the move.
“If you’re opposed to the attacks on our communitys 1st & 2nd Amendment rights, please contact Google,” Brownells said.
Comments on social media were mostly critical of the move, many users saying Brownells is the wrong entity to go after to prevent gun violence.
Powerful advertising platforms like Google, Facebook, and Twitter have come under fire recently from Second Amendment advocates for apparent censorship of gun-related content. Even products meant to increase gun safety, such as ZORE’s highly-rated gun safety lock, have seen their advertisements censored, the internet platforms citing policies restricting ads for firearms sales.
Meanwhile, in the wake of deadly shootings around the country, the gun-control movement has lobbied Congress for tougher gun control and pressured companies and politicians to cut ties with the National Rifle Association. Dick’s Sporting Goods announced it will no longer sell assault weapons.
In particular, the February school shooting in Parkland, Florida that took 17 lives renewed a passionate national debate about gun control and school safety.
Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.
When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson
"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

You have to be kidding. Iowa retailer with a stellar reputation. I wonder if James Yeager still has his goofy channel.

What rights? I'm pretty sure Google can do whatever it wants with Youtube.
To me, this is a little like net neutrality. An ISP or Comcast or whoever can say 'f you' and no one can do anything about it.

Well, I continue to support Brownells as a business by making frequent purchases. I won't dignify youtube's actions by attempting to defend Brownells. There's no need for that AFAIC.

Bit of a tortured analogy, sorry. Google can do whatever it wants with youtube and now that net neutrality is history your 'isp' can do whatever it wants, including shrinking your connection to dialup speed because someone else is paying to make sure their traffic has priority.

What part confuses you? The part about YouTube being private property, thus having the right to choose what they will or will not host, or, lacking NN, how ISPs have the same rights and abilities, vis-a-vis what they chose to transport?
YouTube is owned by Google. I sincerely wish that Android TV devices weren't the least worst choice for my needs.

I am surprised that more of these left run media magnates are not doing it more.
I wonder why Twitter just hasn't cut Trump off? THAT would blow up big time in their face is maybe why but I am sure they WANT to.
You can bet there will some shenanigans starting big time when the 2020 and to a lesser degree when all the mid-term hoopla starts.
I guess in the mean time they will just pick off the lower hanging fruit as much as they can.

Brownells posted this earlier today.

Out of curiosity I did a search on YouTube for Brownells Channel and it came up. The most current video was from 4 days ago and there are 68k subscribers. I'm not familiar with their live feed. I heard about it in another video about the shutdown of the channel.

It seems like this happens frequently. A channel gets suspended, shutdown, etc, and then there is an uproar claiming its done to further a particular agenda. Then a short time later the channel is up and running again, and it turns out the reasons for it was something other than the original alleged agenda. This message has been edited.
