Seeking fiberglass cloth vendor
Bonnie sew's 5 days a week .
When not quilting it's other sewing projects.

Or wedding dresses or fixing work cloths for the neighbors.
Or altering cloths for family.

She irons as much as she sew's.

She's looking to find heavy duty fiber glass cloth as a sub layer to cover her ironing board.

Not the super thin stuff they
used to use on auto body's .

The place she got it before went out of business 8 years ago.

Any thoughts about where you purchase yours would be helpful.
Thanks for any consideration you give this.

She checked Amazon for both the fiberglass and a professional ironing board w/o success

Maybe look at fiberglast.com.
I get my carbon fiber and epoxy there but they have fiber glass and other substrates that may be of interest.

I think what he means is a marine / boat shop who does maintenance.

You’re looking for fiberglass mat. Not cloth. Marine shops typically sell it.

Also, sometimes jacuzzi manufacturers will carry mat but, they also tend to manufacture with chopped glass so you need to ask if yhey fo repairs or have a source gor the mat.

Having done fiberglass tank and pipe work professionally for many years fiberglass mat or woven is the last thing i would want around my clothing.

I realize its a sub layer but damn thats miserable stuff to work with. Gotta be a different product to work with.

Are you after mat or woven cloth?

You say she looked at Amazon with no luck. I have recently purchased material and resins from Amazon and a quick search of fiberglass mat, fabric and materials shows a large selection of products.

WestMarine.com is another source that i have purchased from before and who's reputable.

That fiberglast.com site looks like they have a great selection of fabrics if they will sell in that small of quantity your looking for.

In a pinch i have purchased materials from local fiberglass mnfs.

West Marine is a small chain that caters to boaters.

They sell fiberglass in small sheets.

I believe you'll find what you need by searching fiberglass insulating cloth. We use it in my industry, but we use narrow strips on rolls. There are also sheets available.

This stuff isn't all hairy and itchy like the glass used on boats and such.

This outfit is for bulk, but it will give you an idea if that's the type of stuff you're looking for.

Are you looking at this to use as a heat shield?
That’s a different product category although it may use fiberglass too. Plain fiberglass mat will break down and leave lots of nasty loose fibers with any sort of movement that ironing would cause.
Look at automotive heat shielding as a better option.

Couldn't a welding blanket be repurposed into an ironing board cover? They're made of fiberglass matting.

She is saying that the welding blanket is sounding like the best trajectory so far.

If I understood what she wants better ,
I'd offer better information.

Thanks for those choosing to help her out

Same here. The stuff breaks down and you breath it in. It's what the navy used to insulate hot pipes in the engine room. I used to crawl up in the overhead and lay down on loose rolls of fiberglass to take a nap preparing to take the next watch. That way, the guy I was relieving can just come up instead of me being late.

We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual."
