I toss and turn when I sleep. It's very rare that I'll wake up in the same position as when I went to sleep.

However, I've found that during acupuncture sessions, I'll fall asleep while needles are sticking out of a couple dozen locations on my body. I shouldn't be crossing my legs or turning my body or crossing my arms across my body or head. Not like I would do normally when I sleep.

And during acupuncture, I don't. The doc will wake me up and I'll be in the same position. And I sleep deeply enough to be groggy when I wake.

Does the body know not to move during acupuncture? What's at work here. I can't be coincidence that I don't move only during acupuncture.

I toss and turn, as well. I also have a tendency to turn away from pets or people when they occupy the bed with me. I don't know how I'd react with accupuncture.

Why are you tossing and turning? You have to try and find out as this isn’t normal for any of us. I thought that was “just how I was” until I found out I had sleep apnea. My tossing and turning was my body trying not to suffocate!

Lucky you! I can only sleep in the car when I'm driving.

Not normal for any of us? Is there a definition of "tossing and turning" that makes it abnormal? Is there anyone who wakes up in the same position in bed as when they went to sleep? If so, that would be abnormal to me.

Get a LAB sleep study. They will check for RLS and other issues such as apnea. Home studies are popular with Insurance companies because they are cheaper.

I toss and turn ... or more like rollover from one side to the other numerous times per night. For myself is because both shoulders are pretty worn out, right greater than left, and steeping on one side too long gets achy. I was never one to sleep just on my back or stomach.

My understanding is that it is "normal" to move when sleeping. I seem to remember there being numerous studies on this over the years. Here's a fairly recent one: https://www.mindbodygreen.com/...what-it-really-means

quote:
In fact, she notes, the average sleeper moves 40 to 50 times per night. When we're sleep-deprived, we may move less, but under normal circumstances, she adds, we're naturally more active during stage 1 or light sleep, as well as REM sleep, than we are in other sleep stages.

The above bolded section would seem to indicate that you aren't sleeping very deeply

I may roll over a little but my dog keeps me shoved over at one side of the bed.
I'm just happy I don't roll out, given the small space I'm allowed to occupy.

How long are you napping during acupuncture? 15-20 mins? Are you in a bed or on a table?

I would bet if you filmed yourself while sleeping you would be in the same position 30 mins later.

Toss and turn myself, how much depends on how active my mind is that night, or how tired, have cpap and it helps but I still prefer sleeping on my side.

Totally concur!

And FWIW I've been on a CPAP since 1997. Still "migrate" positions while I sleep and wake up in a position different than what I started out in. Big Grin
