I did that a lot when I was traveling - particularly sitting in airports waiting for a missed connection

just make sure you tether your phone to a USB port rather than just wifi the devices

One additional quirk with Verizon and I'm not sure if it still applies: you couldn't hotspot or tether and make a call at the same time. If you were hotspoting or tethering and a call came in, then you were disconnected from the internet.

You can, at least for most calls, most of the time. There is a Mobile Network setting (off by default and hidden under 'Advanced' settings, for reasons that might make sense on a planet I've never visited) called, I think, "Advanced 4G LTE Mode" or some such, that lets you stay online with Verizon during calls, as long as your data connection is 4G LTE.

Hotspotting doesn't affect that. Apparently, in Verizon's 3G and more ancient tech, calls and data shared the same radio/signal and if one was using it, the other couldn't. This setting tells the phone to get with the late 20th century, and, if the data is on 4G LTE and doesn't need that 3G radio, keeps connected during the call.

I used to get cut off with incoming calls, then I found Nirvana that setting. Smile

I'm pretty sure I get calls while on Hotspot and have Verizon.

However, where do you find advanced settings in an iPhone xs? I don't see it in the settings menu.
