I’ve had one for years, but always forgot to get it out of my pack when field dressing a deer. This year, for whatever reason, I was having a heck of a time cutting around that area. Pulled out the ButtOut and it worked like a charm.

Been hunting big game for more than 60 years. In the states, Germany and Iran. Deer, elk, wild boar. Never had a need for one.

Deer hunter for over 30 years here. I'd never heard of it before reading this thread. I might give it a try.

saw something simular years ago while in ALASKA. HEAVIER BUILT as it was designed for moose.. metal rod bar stock ( 1/4inch ) about 16inch long.. with a loop and a anchor chain.... you found them in the tourist trap shops... not for real use but more of a novelty.. supposidly you sneak up from behind= insert into moose making sure the opposite end firmly anchored by chain to a suitable tree and then RUN FOR SAFTEY..........drill sgt.

I bought one this year, didn't get to use it.

I never thought I'd want or need one, never needed one before. I've dressed plenty of deer and never had an issue doing it the regular way. But last year... up on a wind swept deforested hillside, temps around 20, fading light, frozen fingers, wind blowing like crazy.. I finally made a mess of one. So I decided I'd give the stupid butt out tool a try this year.

It's cheap enough, weighs almost nothing, the only down side is it's not a small item. I always hunt with a small pack on, so it's no big deal to put it in with all the way too much other stuff I carry around.

I never seen the need for one but then again, I also field dress the deer with a 3.5" to 4" blade and de-bone/process the game with the same blade an hour later.

I have been using them for about 10 years. I can do fine without it, but it makes the job easier so I use it. It works fine for deer but does not work well for hogs.

I use my old benchmade (sadly my last) usually, field dress and butcher. I’d try this thing though.

I've been using one for probably 15 years or so and it works pretty slick.

I saw a guy totally avoid gutting the deer by splitting it down the backbone and peeling the skin back and harvesting the hams and loins and shoulder meat...

Have one, and use it. Works as advertised. I've heard people say it doesn't work, but if you follow the directions it does. The twisting before pulling is the trick.

I think it helps keep hair out of the hams from cutting around the butt, and from getting crap on meat if you just cut the poop chute.

This is actually a thing? I’ve never killed a deer, but you rip their arse out from the inside?
That said, I have never witnessed the slaughter of the steaks I buy at Costco either.

The way I dress one, no need. I use a sharp, flexible knife and debone the pelvis. If you cut around the ball of the hip joints you can pull hams off and not fool with splitting it.

1 if you are mounting it cape it down and cut off head.
2 skin out rest.
3 cut off forelegs at joint with sharp knife
4 cut out back straps and neck meat all in one.
5 cut off both front shoulders with sharp knife
6 I carefully cut open belly and harvest inner loins. Cut intestine and urethra and let fall into chest cavity with other guts
7 cut spine just ahead of pelvis and let rib cage complete with guts drop in bucket
8 fillet off hind quarters from pelvis
9 chunk pelvis in bucket and cut hind legs from hams with sharp knife at the joint

I haven’t cleaned a deer in over 30 years, but since I started deer hunting again after a LONG hiatus, I watched several YouTube videos to get me back up to speed and to see any new thoughts on the subject. I never saw this tool being used, and I just saw sharp knives cutting around the area. One guy p7lled it out and tied a string around it so no poop would come out. It may be a handy tool, but I don’t think it would be a necessity in my toy collection. Still, looks like a handy tool.

I was lucky enough to get to use the Butt Out three times this year on deer.

I think its super easy. I am no expert at field dressing deer but I get the job done. Before I would use a hand saw and cut the pelvis. The Butt Out eliminates all that.

I always have some string so I can tie off the intestines before pulling them through.

I haven't used it, but I have a buddy who buys anything that's new and shiny, and he got one 4 or 5 years back. I've seen him use it, and it worked as advertised that one time. That was a large doe, and it was done quickly. I liked that as he twisted it "sealed" the butt up, no leaky leaky.

It's not a gimmick and actually works well if you know what you are doing with it.

I've always had issues field dressing when getting around the lower end and trying to cut cleanly around the ass hole. I haven't deer hunted in about 8 years and I don't see much more in the future since I gave up participating in a lease and places I used to hunt have become inaccessible. I wish I'd have had one of these gadgets earlier on.
