After 15 years in the house I finally facilitated and financed adding a Coleman OD AC unit with the original Coleman propane horizontal furnace that was ac ready. Seemed like every summer I would tell them we should put AC in. I was always met with "No we have a blow out the window unit and it works fine."
Not any more. I Had enough and they needed real AC. So it got put in today. Not sure how Coleman rates but it worked great when the AC guy flipped the switch.
Just checked with them and they said it is 93 outside and it is 75 in the house. How wonderful.

Hvac guys was great.

Our house was built with no ducting.
Oh well.

I will just remember how comfortable they are which makes me very happy.

Good for you getting it done for them, lots of elderly will push back, they don't need it, change is difficult but it's a real issue for older people in hot weather.

Our house has radiator steam heat but over ten years ago we were able to put-in central AC via mini-ducts that run through closets into the ceilings of our two story house. It's not cheap, but I don't regret the investment. Installing and uninstalling five window units every year was a nightmare.

Ductless mini-split ACs are also potentially an option.

Thanks guys for the suggestions. We do put a window unit in a downstairs bedroom and it helps a little bit when it gets super hot.
I may talk with the AC guy and see what he would recommend.

My grandparents lived in an old house. They had a window unit AC in their kitchen nook.I remember many times sitting around their kitchen table enjoying that AC and rest of the house was unbearable.

My folks also don’t have AC but they would only need it a few days a year where they live and make do with fans. They come to visit me here in FL and complain how cold it is becuase we run it pretty much all days and night in the summer

When my grandparents were in their 80's, their window unit died. The house was so small it had cooled the whole house. Well, it died. I went to visit from out of state, and told them I would go get them another. They refused, saying they didn't have that much longer to live. I then went to Best Buy and bought them a unit and took it back and installed it. They complained, saying I shouldn't have spent the money. I refused to argue further, I had plenty of money and only two grandparents left. Sadly, I now have none.

I put a Coleman A/C unit in my house in the 80's. It worked great. I sold the house in 2005 and it was still going strong.

Didnt realize they were still around under the same name.

About forty years ago I worked for a distributor who sold Coleman equip. Same Coleman who made lanterns, cookstoves, cots, etc. There were pretty much used in mobile homes. Excellent quality at that time. So I was pretty familiar with the name.
I knew they were not the same company. Thanks stoic-one for the info. We sent in the warranty card yesterday. We are happy a couple days in. The installer is good so I am hoping this unit last's a good long time.

I remember when my Memaw and Pop-pop got A/C installed in their north Florida home - sometime in the 70s. Before then sleeping upstairs was, windows open and above the sheets.
