I have a bunch of VHS tapes I’d like to put on DVD. The services that do that seem fairly expensive. I found there are reasonably priced devices to do it yourself.

Does anyone have experience with these?

Thanks

Once you have it on a dvd, can you edit it? If so, what software do you use?

A suggestion.... Convert the VHS tape into a MP4 file format (or whatever you like) and save it to a desktop machine. There you can edit it as you like. When you have what you want, you can always burn it to a DVD (assuming your PC has a DVD drive). Personally, the files I've created from VHS tapes stay on my desktop hard drive, and get copied to a jump drive if they need to be portable.

Are these home movies or commercial tapes? I'm not very knowledgeable about this but many commercial tapes have a copyright protection that prevents copying them. I think there may be programs that can bust those but someone who knows more will have to expand on this.

GoVideo made a dual deck recorder that is capable of such a thing with zero signal loss.

It can also be used as a stand alone unit.

Home made tapes off television or family movies with camcorder won't have a problem.
