Youtube only recommends videos based on videos that you watch. What you might do is clear the history periodically so it has no history to base recommendations on. I have turned history off so I get no recommendations what so ever.

Yeah, something's off with your preferences or watch history.

I watch almost exclusively firearms and history videos, and get zero recommendations for old movies or anything else unexpected.

Go to home page and click 'new to you' icon on top right. Like shuffling the deck.
