I mentioned in a thread that my grandson likes to collect rocks. UTsig saw that and sent a box of rocks that he collected and polished for the boy. They were individually bagged and labeled by type. They were interesting to me, too.
The rocks were a huge hit. Campbell liked the tiger eye and obsidian especially, and was very interested to know that petrified wood was a piece of wood that turned into a rock.
Thanks, UTsig!

Uncle Floyd was known as a rock hound, he passed away when I was 16 y.o., I never knew what a rock hound was, that is until we were invited to see his collection ,after his service. There in his basement were six, 6 ft tables and the whole basement wall, full of neatly placed and labeled stones. Then, they turned out the lights and a bunch of them were glowing, which I thought was very cool, then! They turned on a u.v. light and there was a very cool display ,yet again! I would guess that he had over 400.........specimens. if that's what you call them.

For some reason, some kids just love rocks. I've got a 5 year old neighbor that sneaks over to get rocks, her parents told her not to bother us. Getting the picture from John still has a smile on my face.
