Not everything is as it seems, it could be Virtue Signaling, and it could be a strategy to exit a product name without much negative impact.
I'm not so sure they are caving in as much as exploiting the situation to run a marketing scheme. With all the BLM news, they can change the name, look "woke" get worldwide national recognition for being with the times...
It's more like people inside felt it was time to get the change done to prevent retaliation against the brand for it's name and heritage, and then react vs acting and cutting off the head of the snake..
Perhaps so, but
if they were going to "exit" their previous brand they could also choose to do so at a less emotionally charged time. They could simply choose to 'quietly' make the change without any press release or fanfare.
You assert that there isn't much negative impact, but I would disagree, and, at the very least, it's a risky move for both your customers and investors, a risk that could be mitigated by choosing a more subdued approach, and a less emotionally charged time to implement it while making an effort to explain
why you are choosing to end a deep-rooted connection to an iconic and profitable image.
Yeah, I'm not buying into this being anything more than corporate cowardice and corporate SJW virtue signaling.

az4783054conversations and product labels should include "I'm sorry if this offends you", like the ca cancer stickers on everything man made.

HRKI doubt they had much inclination to change the name since it's a household name like Kleenex until the recent unpleasantness, and the likely influx of people who think in a SJW mindset into the corporate culture.
Its most likely a bit of both, I"d imagine they have had plenty meetings over the name of the product in the past 12 plus years of the race issues in the USA, imagine that it's been seriously considered with the situations this year
I get some will be offended by the Name and logo, and some will be offended by the removal of the name and logo. The end result depends on how many of either group were ever really customers.
One mans cowardice is another's self preservation method...

bigwagonAunt Jemima is a garbage product. If they really wanted to make a statement, they should have just discontinued it. Otherwise, it's just cynical opportunism and begs the question, why didn't they eradicate this symbol of "racism" decades ago?

Aunt Jemaima has been deemed a racist stereotypical image and is now going to join the beautiful Land o Lakes Native American woman and vanish completely from the packaging.
“ We recognize Aunt Jemima’s origins are based on a racial stereotype," Quaker Oats said, adding that the move is an effort "toward progress on racial equality."
If someone was seriously triggered by a bottle of pancake syrup with a happy black lady on it they should do the world a favor and dive into a wood chipper head first.
This is just fucking silly.
So doesn't the companys name mean that they are racist against Quakers????Q

rscalzoThis had been an issue over the past few years but never went anywhere. Change the name to Aunt Harriet and pit the face of a white female on the box. Solved.
As long as the leave the Honey Bunches of Oats lady alone.
On a more serious note, apparently calling someone Auntie or Uncle who is Black is a slue similar to calling a child Boy or Girl?? , which I never got. But I can't say it isn;'t valid.
I'll buy Bisquick and use REAL: Maple syrup...not the watered down crap.

jimmy123xHow is the NAME Aunt Jemima, racist? It's not.
The picture also is NOT racist as it's the picture of the damn person that invented the crap. Little by little they keep trying to divide the country and chip away at our freedom.

A) The name comes from a character in a minstrel show.
B) She didn't invent the syrup. She was just the spokeswoman. She's the first living trademark was was one of the first black millionaires in the US. They should just rename the syrup after her!

Eskimo Pie company vows change, calls branding derogatoryhttps://www.reuters.com/articl...imopie-idUSL8N2DW52KLONDON, June 19 (Reuters) - The U.S. owner of Eskimo Pie ice cream will change the product’s brand name and marketing, it told Reuters on Friday, becoming the latest in a string of companies rethinking racially charged brand imagery amid a broad debate on racial injustice.
Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, the owner of Eskimo Pie said it had been reviewing the business for some time.
“We are committed to being a part of the solution on racial equality, and recognize the term is derogatory,” said Elizabell Marquez, Head of Marketing at Dreyer’s Grand in a statement.
“This move is part of a larger review to ensure our company and brands reflect our people values.”
Dreyer’s Grand is the U.S. subsidiary of Froneri, a joint venture between Nestle and Britain’s R&R Ice Cream.
Eskimo Pie is a chocolate-covered vanilla ice cream on a stick.

Lefty SigColgate-Palmolive changed Darkie toothpaste to Darlie 30 years before the "awokening", but they still sell it in China. It's a popular brand so they have been reluctant to change it.
Companies are reacting ONLY to the political environment to avoid getting bad press or boycotted. If it sells well and there is not enough public sentiment against it, they really don't care.
