Dilbert' creator Scott Adams dies at age 68
Dilbert" cartoonist Scott Adams has died at the age of 68, his former wife announced on his show Tuesday morning.

"He’s not with us anymore," Shelly Miles told listeners.

Earlier this month, Adams shared a health update on his podcast "Real Coffee with Scott Adams."

"I talked to my radiologist yesterday, and it’s all bad news — the odds of me recovering are essentially zero," he said. "I’ll give you any updates if that changes, but it won’t."

"So there’s no chance that I’ll get my feeling back in my legs, and I’ve got some ongoing heart failure, which is making it difficult to breathe sometimes during the day," the cartoonist continued. "However, you should prepare yourself that January will probably be a month of transition, one way or another."

Adams first announced his prostate cancer diagnosis on his show in May, saying that he was in pain every day and had been using a walker for months.

"If you're wondering if I'll get better, the answer is no, it will only get worse," he said at the time. "There's only one direction this goes."

Adams began writing and illustrating the Dilbert comic strip in 1989. Hundreds of newspapers pulled Dilbert in early 2023, after he made racially charged comments during his show.

He then launched a new, online subscription-based version called "Dilbert Reborn," which he describes on his website as "uncensored and spicier."

A decent man, taken too soon.

I liked "Dilbert", but Scott Adams commentary and opinion were sorely needed.

Wow. This hits home in a couple ways.

He wrote a few books that I really liked as well.
“The Dilbert Principle” and “God’s Debris”.

I've been watching his morning podcast for a long time. I knew it was getting close, I think he did as well, he started having guests. Back in May when he did announce the cancer he was of the opinion he wouldn't last the summer. I'm glad he got to see 2026.

Sad to hear that. No one can take his place.

I so identified with life in cubicles as he captured it in his strip. It was like he was in the same cubicle farm as me.

Very unfortunate.

He was one of the few mainstream 'creatives' that was openly conservative. Anybody who worked in or around a corporate office environment, could find humor in his Dilbert comic. I think it was around early 2000's, and just about every other cubicle where I was working had a Dilbert cut-out, calendar or, some Dilbert-thymed item in their space.

Very sad to hear. He uniquely captured the idiosyncrasies of modern work life. More than once I encountered situations that I felt were essentially real life Dilbert episodes.

Never got into Dilbert myself, but he sure seemed like a decent guy. Prostate CA blows, and it’s not a fun way to die. My best friend was recently diagnosed and is under advisement for “watchful waiting”. I told him that I get that sucker yanked out yesterday. I think too many guys are worried about their peckers. That boner won’t do you any good if you’re dead.

RIP Scott Adams

I enjoyed his humor for decades and I think a lot had to do with him having actually spent years in corporate America (banking and then telecoms) so he captured the idiosyncrasies very well. This comic is from the days of physical bulletin boards, and I don't know how it stayed on the bulletin board in the engineering dept for years because two of the asshats that caused this to be true at my employer walked passed it several times per day:

More recently, I began seeing excerpts of his podcast on Twitter/X and enjoyed his outlook on life.

We knew it was coming and h3 didn't sound very good recently when I listened to him. Sad and so long to a good guy.

Yes, his brain was too active to accept his physical reality and pushed the due date. For those familiar with his podcast --

The key is to actually watch, not just wait. For most men it will be a very slow growing cancer, but for some it will be fast and aggressive. Doing very frequent psa testing and whatever else they have these days would be wise.

PSA and Gleason score can rise very quickly if it is aggressive. And, for many men there is no decent PSA test history to look at, so when they bump over 4.0 there isn't much to go on to determine how aggressive it is. My grandfather had no PSA testing and didn't go to the urologist before he had pain. The doc said watchful waiting and did nothing for at least 6 months. By then it was too late. Statistically on average something else would kill an 80 yr old just diagnosed, but his was aggressive.

What I wouldn't do is wait 6-12 months before doing another PSA or having whatever the best practice imaging is these days.

I heard PSMA Pet Scan is a newer better test. My urologist said he doesn't have any experience or much knowledge about it. Lovely.
