Plate Carrier Setups - Let's See Them

Simple like yours, OD Green carrier, three x 30rd AR15 mags and a tourniquet. Time permitting, I can clip 1 AR mag my EDC belt as a fast reload and then would have my EDC G19 w/reload. Also nearby is a small grab shoulder bag with more AR / Glock mags, and other comfort items (flashlight, multitool, bottled water, power bar, etc).

Plate carrier is an Ares Armor (now American Weapons Components) Derma in Ranger Green. https://www.americanweaponscom...legacy-plate-carrier

(The carrier's wide aluminum Australpine Cobra buckles on the sides are fan-freaking-tastic. Best cummerbund system I've ever tried or seen. No fiddling with velcro and flaps to don/doff. Just throw it on and clip in.)

Here's a breakdown of the rest:

I’ve got those buckles on my setup and absolutely hate them....if they aren’t lined up perfectly they won’t release...the slightest angle and it’s a no go....our whole tactical team has them and it’s a struggle at best.

Interesting. I've never had that problem with the buckles not releasing if the angles are off.

However, the Cobra buckles were originally intended as climbing buckles, so they're designed to lock and not release if under tension/load. Maybe it's not so much about the angle, as it is about your buckles being under too much tension when you're trying to release them?

Be sure there's a little slack in the cummerbund when you're trying to release it. If needed, try loosening the cummberbund a bit. Or alternately, you could press slightly back on the front plate or female buckle, or press slightly forward on the male end, while releasing the buckle to make sure it takes any remaining tension off.

I have an Eagle Scalable vest .gov surplus that a friend bought several off eBay so I got it Real cheap. Allegedly has level 3 soft armor sewn in. Haven’t gotten any plates or mag pouches yet. Will Probly get steel due to budget constraints and reality is it’s a TEOTWAKI Item for me. Hides in the closet for now. debating a M1A or AR set up. As I have multiple rifles of each.

Me too. Not with those wide cobras, but I recently got a belt from DSG and it's a chore to get the buckle done for that very reason.

4 total. The helmet itself is a PASGT IIIA, nothing too special. The pouch contains a couple chest seals, some trauma dressing and combat gauze.

Sounds like a similar issue with the Cobra buckle locking because it's under tension.

When you're having trouble getting the cobra buckle undone, squeeze/compress the two ends of the buckle together, depress the release buttons, then release the compression on the two ends of the buckle and remove the male end.

I ended up with a Crye JPC 2.0

And AT armor 4400 Hesco plates.

I looked at chase tactical, but didn't really find the set up I wanted.

The carrier is completely unmarked, but I think it's from Condor. I tried a Brig Pig carrier and the straps weren't long enough for me. There is no way that it would have fit over a vest, so I envy somewhat smaller people who can get stuff like that to work for them. The carrier is cut for BALCS soft armor, but I don't have it. The cummerbund is long enough that the carrier fits comfortably, although the Velcro is a bit of a PITA. I have plates and backers front and back so it's level IV stand alone.

The cobra buckle system that Rogue has looks like quite an improvement over the velcro, but I don't work in the field and this is for really bad times where I'm sure I need to put it on. If I had to perform multiple dons and doffs during training or duty days I'd probably end up using the cobra buckles.
