Firearms Insurance Rider Cost and Questions Login/Join

While doing an inventory I decided I needed to up my rider on the homeowners policy.

I'm curious how the rate I'm paying compares to others, and if anyone has found a stand alone policy that might be more cost effective.

Currently we pay about $1 for every $37 of insured coverage annually.

I'm thinking of only partially insuring the collection to save a little. Anyone else do this? How did you decide on an amount? I'm thinking I would just cover the ones I feel I would really cringe were I to take a financial hit on.

Another question I had is if you've ever had to utilize your policy for a firearm that had a scope were the scopes covered under the normal homeowners policy, or did they count toward your firearms rider? Our rider covers scopes and accessories, but if I could have them covered under the standard homeowners policy it would definitely lower the coverage as I have mostly scoped hunting rifles.

I do not trust any home owners insurers to cover my firearms, accessories and NFA stuff. Too many exclusions and too expensive. I’ve used a company called Collectibles before but currently use Armscare Plus. I don’t think that answered your question, but it’s just my 2 cents.

I think your input was fine. Armscare is what I'm looking at as aside from the administration fee it is about half what I'm currently paying.

Get a high quality safe. That's better money spent.

You can still insure the stuff you use out and about more often like a competition gun, hunting gun, etc.

Having your scope and accessories ridered will exempt the deductible(usually). By going to the homeowner policy, the deductible will apply and most people don't have low deductible any more.

Same here except the addition of a large Rottie in another layer. We have two safes. That'll take the average burglar a little while longer to figure out which one contains anything of value.

USAA covers my small collection for a very nominal annual fee. Keep in mind it's a 'homeowners' policy so you probably won't get coverage if you leave your pistol in a TARGET restroom.

If people would mind their own damn business this country would be better off. I owe no one an explanation or an apology for my personal opinion.

The NRA also offers firearms insurance. You can purchase any dollar amount you want, I think a membership offers a small insurance amount. A friend of mine has used it for years, but has never had a claim.

I only insure the value of the higher end stuff. The single items that would hurt to replace. I don't need to insure 15 Glocks when, realistically, if they were all gone tomorrow, I'd probably need to buy 2...

A friend had a top quality safe when his house burnt to the ground. while the firearms survived, the humidity and heat caused major rusting issues.

I just added coverage from State Farm. I have several policies from bike, car, home, umbrella and life with them. A little over two hundred a year which is billed monthly with another policy. $37,000 in coverage. no exclusions for anything.

While quite true, are you happy taking a 5k loss on the items?

Forthat amount, the NRA charges about $450.00

it was prohibitively expensive to add the rider to my homeowners

I took out a policy through NRA for 1/3 the price

First time years ago I checked and I found that. Yet last week the rate of $282.00 per year... $37, 300 in coverage, zero deductible.

that is through State Farm. I do get multi line discounts which may affect pricing.

That's insane. are we talking your baseline coverage or a rider? My homeowners is about $1 for every 750 in coverage. My rider for collectables is nearly double that.

I pay $ 9.00 per thousand with a major insurance company scheduled item. Agent tells me if I damage the item or worse I am covered 100%. Does not cover KABOOMs
