Microwave advice needed Repair or Replace?
I bought a Panasonic Microwave Oven upon the advice of Forum members last September. It has been used about twice per day in the office to prepare small meals. It totally stopped working today, no LED lights, turntable would not revolve etc. Outlet is okay. The exact model is: Panasonic NN-SD372S Countertop Microwave with Inverter Technology 0.8 Cu. Ft, 950W, Stainless $115.99.

I have been happy with it until today. Repair or just buy the same model again? I am factoring in my time and the hassle factor for a small budget item. Thoughts?? Thanks

To make sure somebody didn't sabotage your microwave oven, carefully examine the prongs of the AC power cord. Some jokesters have been known to
apply scotch tape to one of the prongs making the
appliance totally inoperable.

I'd take it apart and look for a blown fuse, but I'm cheap.

Probably still under warranty.

Look for a fuse. I replaced one in my unit that exhibited similar symptoms.

Less than one year at twice a day usage doesn't make sense. I would spend some time pursuing the warranty first.

Then, i wouldn't repair. But I wouldn't replace it with the same model either. I'm get something else. I bet you'd get something better from Walmart at a cheaper price.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Why would someone want to do that? Seems dumb.

Because they can, only way to put it. Kind of like taking somebody's lunch out of a break room refrigerator, taking a bite or two and putting it back.

I have found that you can kill a microwave in a year if you use it a lot for heating water. I used to cook pasta dishes in my microwave. All the steam created from the boiling water doesn't vent properly and the moisture kills the electronics. Unless you have the electrical knowledge to fix it yourself, the only option is to throw it in the trash and buy a new one. Just buy the $80 models and accept that they have become consumable products.

Don't be silly. Roll Eyes

He probably just needs to buy a refill bottle of microwave fluid.

if you do replace, I'd get one of these, as it's what I have and it works flawlessly

I just saw this thread. I got it repaired at Panasonic expense and it is working fine. It was an ordeal getting them to pay for shipping both ways. It took emails to some execs in New Jersey and about three hours of my time. In retrospect it would have been more cost effective to have taken it to the range and blow it to pieces with my semiauto shotgun. I think I posted what happened a year ago, but cannot specifically recall.
