True story. I've always said if turkey was so damned delicious, we'd eat it more than twice a year. Good turkey is pretty tasty, but turkey is easy to screw up and bad turkey is just...bad. Chicken is easier and tastier.
I used to do Cornish Hens for holidays for just me and the wife. Turkey's only advantage is it is large enough to feed a family gathering with a single bird.

Not in the traditional sense, it's a cultural excuse to have a party, buy things and join other parts of the world in celebration. You should see what Valentine's Day is like over there...

Japanese versions of American fast food sometimes are very different. I had to spend 5 months in Osaka many years back. It took me that long to teach them, at the local DQ, how to make the American version. I was working in a steel mill at the time. If you ordered a banana split the girl at the desk would hop on her bike and ride down the street to the market and buy 1 banana.

Perhaps, Corsair was implying how it has evolved from just Valentine's Day to that and white day and why ?
At first, guys would just regift the chocolates they received, so to stem that tide, they made it a day for white chocolates (and such) to keep 'em honest

An interesting bit of trivia is that every KFC in Japan has a life size likeness of Colonel Sanders standing out front and the eyeglasses have lenses in them ground to exact prescription that was worn by the actual Colonel Sanders.

There’s all sorts of funny holiday shit in Asia...children’s day, teachers day (teachers still have to work) women’s day, singles day etc.

The roll eyes was in reference to the silliness that occurs on Valentines day, a day where affection is 'to be confessed' through cultural compunction amongst the younger gen. Yes, there's White Day, and that balances things out, whereas in the West it's 'lavish me with all the material things and I'll think about your proposition'.
