So, the wife suddenly got a MBP, Ipad and Iphone and we are exploring these after too many years of Windows and Android.

We got a year of free Apple TV and haven't got a clue how to make her Apple devices work together as a group and more important, since my Chromecasts are too old to join, how to make the XBox 1, part of the casting group.

I only have an Iphone 12 Pro max and Apple TV 4K, but all I did to get them to work together is log in each with the same Apple account. I think you should be able to cast from Apple products to chromecast if it has the Apple TV app installed and signed into with your Apple account. you might also want to check www.imore.com for more advanced help into this as well.

When we try to AirPlay from any device, it will only show itself as available/existing.
On the other hand, incoming phone calls also ring on the ipad.

You need a ChromeCast with built in Chrome TV to be able to cast Apple TV. Mine are from an earlier gen. My TVs are all dumb as the owner.

Both devices need to be on (and awake) in order to Airdrop between the two of them.
Once all three are all signed in under the same Apple ID, they should seamlessly interact with each other.

I have two iPhones (work and personal), iMac, MacBook, iPad, 3 Apple TV's, and 2 Home Pods. All share the same Apple ID and iCloud account, so they all synch pretty seamlessly.

Logging into an iOS device generally enables all iCloud features, but MacOS sometimes you have to log in to iMessage, FaceTime, and iCloud separately.

Once everything is fully logged in, you can selectively decide what things to synch. For example I synch iMessage across all device, but not my work phone. That way I can erase personal messages that come to my work phone and not have them delete everywhere else. I also do not use iCloud Photos or Photo Stream. I disable the ability to use other devices to make phone calls as well.

Once you get it all working it is pretty cool.

The phone, pad and Mac are all signed in with the wife's Id.
Yet, somethings sync but when it comes to Airplay, devices are on their own. We must be missing something.

Also, discovered and installed Airplay Server for XBox 1.
The iphone then recognized the console but when we tried to cast Tehran it returned an error message saying the TV could not reproduce the media contents.

Ok I just airplay to the Apple TV and it always works. Haven't tried to a non-Apple device. My Denon receivers can take audio and my Sony TV's might be able to take video, but for $200 the Apple TV's make it easy. And Apple TV is better than any TV-based app system, or just about anything else I've seen. With an Apple TV box, Chromecast and Firesticks are redundant.

Make sure they're all on the same Wi-Fi signal. If I have Wi-Fi turned off on my iPhone, Airplay won't see the Apple TV.
