Closed Army ammo plant in TX will reopen to make primers
Ammunition plant to open near Texarkana
HOOKS, Texas -- Expansion Industries, an ammunition manufacturing company whose corporate offices are based out of Carrollton, Texas, is preparing to open a manufacturing facility here.
They have begun preparation work on the East Campus of TexAmericas Center, purchasing the main G Line of the former Lone Star Army Ammunition plant, and have begun preparing the site for operations.
Recently, they also have begun a recruiting drive, advertising an on-site job fair they have coming up Jan. 29. They plan on employing more than 400 by 2023 and have plans beyond that.
The facility will specialize in the production of primers, a key component in ammunition manufacturing, for the small arms industry...
I used to drive right by that plant on my trips to the ancestral home in Arkansas. Will be nice to have it up and running again.

It'll be even nicer to have primers on the shelves again.

This is fantastic.
Local gun store posted on a local forum the other day “Primers available” but no price. Zoom in on the photos and their little price sticker on a sleeve of 1000- $124.99.
Fucking shameful.
These hawkers will never get my business for ANY product.

The ammo plant (well, one line) will reopen, but the adjacent Red River Army Depot never closed.
Summer of 1967, I had a summer job at Lone Star. I ran a resizing die for 105mm shell cases. We could tell from the lot numbers we stamped on them just how long it took them to go to VN and return to be reloaded. Most were about 1 month. This message has been edited. Last edited by: henryaz,

Yes, the Rock Island Arsenal is still open, I retired from there 5+ years ago.
This has been pretty big news around here for a couple months. I worked at the old Day & Zimmerman LSAAP (Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant) when I graduated HS back in 1989. My son applied when they had their big “job fair” a few weeks ago. It’s good to see some industry coming back to this area.

Next county north of me has a building bearing the Expansion Ammo sign on the side. Not huge, I don't know if it's a distribution center, or something else.
