Cigar recommendation: daily smoke less than about $4.00 Login/Join

I need to get a gift for someone. They like cigars but are also cost conscious and wouldn’t smoke a $10 cigar every evening even if it was given to them. I don’t know specific ones or brands they like.

I was thinking about a sub $4 to $5 daily cigar that is a good smoke based on reputation. Size wise I’m thinking like a 5 X 50 - or a good 20 to 30 minute smoke.

Probably nothing too strong either. I prefer an Oliva Serie V but only occasionally and I think they are a bit spendy (it’s been a while). Otherwise I think they would be about right for my friend.

I’d appreciate some recommendations! Thanks.

Sign up for https://www.cigarpage.com/, they have very good deals, free shipping. I'm an Oliva fan and like the Series V and Melanio, both in Maduro. I place an order about once a month, as soon as the Oliva special pops up.

Got a Costco membership?

They sell several kits made up of premium cigars, generally an assortment from a single manufacturer that net price to $5 a stick, these would be $10 sticks straight single purchase in a store.

You can find some of these in most cigar stores for similar prices that end up at the $ point per stick.

There have been several taxes aimed at cigars, especially the rolled full leaf sticks that have helped raise prices.

Ghurka, Oliva, Fuente, all have assortment packs that are typically good deals.

If you are looking for one or two sticks $5 to $7 in the Robusto size is easily found, Ghurka, Nica Rustica, Ashton, Bolivar, just about any brand will have a stick in that area.

Ask them what they like, you can camouflage the reason by saying you're looking for some ideas for yourself, or just go check their cigar area and look for the labels they take off...

Been a Costco member for over 20 years and never knew about the cigar kits thanks. I’ll take a look.

HOW in the hell do you decide which cigars to order?? I smoke a pipe and my forays into cigars haven’t been pleasant. I have found one cigar that was tolerable bordering on enjoyable. I have tried many different ones, all at around the $10 price point and it’s been a waste of money for the most part. Maybe I’m just not a cigar guy, which is probably a good thing given the value of pipe tobacco.

I prefer a full-bodied cigar and I like the Oliva Serie V Melanio, and purchase them (usually a box) from Cigar Page when they go on sale.

Cigar Page - Oliva Serie V Melanio

The ‘regular’ Serie V is good too.

If I am the mood for a slightly less robust smoke, I also keep these in my humidor -

Cigar Page - Monte Cristo White

Either will hit your price point (when they go on sale, which they often do) in the size range you mentioned.

One of the ways is to order samplers, a variety pack from online vendors. Mikes Cigars in Miami does a very good job at creating these packages, and you can order different size packs from 5 to 50 cigars in a sampler.

That links to a mild cigar pack of some quality smokes and is generally a good place to start with a Robusto size cigar and in the middle of the flavor group.

Personally I prefer Maduro cigars (dark leaf) a lot of people look at the color and think the dark leaf cigars will be too strong, but they are not, and personally find the Maduros have better flavor.

There are some Connecticut wrapper (light) cigars that actually burn hot and don't have a good taste.

Link Maduro Sampler

Figure that out and it makes it easier to find labels that you prefer.

I had to quit 5 years ago but I enjoyed the master blends. I'd be on that deal like a fat kid on cake.

I went with this since I like Oliva and it gets me to just over $5/stick with shipping for a gift. Thanks.
Cigarpage and Holts look like great options for good deals!
