PC software ?
Not a computer expert by a long shot but I have heard that some of the newer versions of Windows can run older software that is now out dated.

Have a laptop with Win 8 and want to install and run drivers for a HP printer.
The software appears to be able to run on Win 7 & lower.
I have the disc with the drivers but the laptop says it cannot run due to software is outdated.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry on my phone, pasted from a quick google search.

Windows 8 compatibility mode allows users to run programs that are designed for older versions of Windows.
To apply compatibility mode
Right-click on the program's icon or shortcut
Select Properties
Select the Compatibility tab
Check the box next to Run this program in compatibility mode for
Select the desired version of Windows from the drop-down list
Click Apply and OK

To troubleshoot compatibility issues
Run the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter
In the troubleshooter, select the program you're having problems with
Follow the remaining instructions in the troubleshooter

I read something similar when I did a search.
I can't even load the program to be able to "check it's compatibility".

Check the support section of HP's website to see if there are updated drivers for that printer that you can download:

Another option would be installing the VMWare freeware version compatible with the host machine OS and then installing into the VMWare window whatever OS you need. I believe it will even work with Dos 3.1 and CPM. I know it works with XP as I had some critical software that would not run on anything newer and it performed brilliantly for years.
