I used it once to receive money and for whatever reason it took 7 days from the time the buyer sent it to the time I received it. Im using it today and the buyer was flagged by his bank when he tried to send me money for a motorcycle seat. Is this SOP for Zelle or just bad luck since I've never been fond of any of these money apps.

Might be an issue w/ your bank, as you seem to have had an issue/delay both sending AND receiving funds. I could also be an issue resulting from the way your bank implements Zelle, especially if you're using the 'Purple' standalone Zelle app, as opposed to using Zelle within the online banking app from your bank. In the case of my bank (TD Bank), Zelle is just one of the banking functions in the online banking app; along with Deposit, Transfer and Bill Pay. I've never had any issue whatsoever.

I use Zelle through my bank's mobile app and nobody has complained about slow payment. Over 2200 banks use Zelle.

I don’t use Zelle often but use it through my bank’s app. Last time I was not able to complete a transaction and contacted my bank. For some reason the transaction triggered possible fraud with my bank and it was my bank to stopped the transaction and had to clear the flag. I don’t even remember what it was I bought.

Might not have anything to do with you. Buyer might have logged in through a VPN, buyer might be in the middle of a motorcycle build and is using Zelle an unusual amount to buy parts, buyer might be a scumbag and Zelle just protected you, etc.

I use it a lot:

Child support to ex, college living expenses weekly to my son, reimbursing cash I give to my mom, and businesses like tree trimming and sprinkler system service.

Works fine and payment is almost instant. But there is a limit to how much you can send a now payee the first time, and perhaps a transaction or daily limit. Depends on the bank and your account.

I use Zelle monthly or so. Transfers have always happened within a few minutes, fifteen at the outside.

Zelle for me is pretty much instantaneous. Bet it t has something to do with your bank or your recipients bank not being a Zelle partner.

I’ve used Zelle to pay a few contractor’s bills from my bank’s online banking website. One didn’t work ‘cause the amount was over whatever limit so I just got him a check. The others were quick and easy, with the plumber thanking me a few minutes after I sent it.

I use it all the time, and have never had an issue. Payments sent and received show up instantaneously, although like any bank transfer they sometimes take a day or so to finalize processing and fully clear.

It's my preferred way of sending/receiving electronic payments.

It's similar to all the other big person-to-person electronic payment processors like Paypal/Cashapp/Venmo/etc., but with several important distinctions:

A) Rather than it being a private company like those others, it's backed and run by all the major banks (and their robust fraud departments).

B) Unlike those others, funds you receive go directly into your bank account. Basically like any other ACH transfer from one bank to another.

Because that's exactly what it is... A fancy and more user-friendly portal for sending/receiving ACH transfers from bank to bank. Same as you logging into your bank website and setting up an ACH transfer to another bank account, just in a streamlined way.

What personal info, if any, becomes visible to the recipient? Bank account number? Name, address? Or no personal info, just funds?

Ironically just used it to purchase a MC seat from another individual. We used to use it to pay rent.
Never had an issue.

Just your email address or phone number (which is what you provide to someone to specify where you want the funds sent in Zelle), and the name associated with the Zelle account.

Unlike a traditional bank-to-bank ACH transfer, they don't need or get your bank's routing number and bank account number.

If I send money, the recipient gives me his email or phone number and name.

If I receive money, I give the sender my email or phone number and name.

And that's the extent of shared personal info? Good to know, thanks.

Correct.

You enroll in Zelle via your bank's online banking system, and your Zelle account is linked to whichever bank account you choose during that process, but other people you send/receive funds with do not get access to that account info.

A person buying ammo from me wanted to pay first, have me hold it and then pick it up much later as she was then out of state. She insisted on using Zelle, so I signed up. It worked OK for me then, I don't recall any delays.

Have used it a few times since although I don't like paying for something from a remote stranger unless I can see it or hold it. Once that money gets transfered, there is no way to reverse it if you later find out you were scammed.
