This is an amazing story; it's in four parts and you have to log in with Medium using FB or Google to finish it. After the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor a Pan Am flying boat had to get back to the US from Auckland NZ--the long way round. Truly great read, and a true story. In search of baseball, strippers, and guns |
I was fortunate enough once upon a time to take a graduate level class called “the history of flight” much of which focused on Juan Trippe and his contributions to aviation. The professor, an older gentleman from South Carolina whose older brother was a P51 ace, loved this story. I loved the clipper planes. I often wonder if you could create a niche tourism industry around the old routes and planes —————————————————— If the meek will inherit the earth, what will happen to us tigers?

I believe in the principle of Due Process |
Given the state of navigation aids, maps, etc. it is a miracle. Foolhardy to even try, really. Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me. When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

Just excellent. Thanks, RMD TL Davis: “The Second Amendment is special, not because it protects guns, but because its violation signals a government with the intention to oppress its people…” Remember: After the first one, the rest are free.

His Royal Hiney |
It's just mind boggling. But it tells of a time when people had initiative and smarts. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Live Slow, Die Whenever |
I could see this becoming a movie, hell it has to be. Maybe Clint Eastwood wouldnt mind doing another aviation movie? "I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, and I won't be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to other people and I require the same from them." - John Wayne in "The Shootist"

Delusions of Adequacy |
I have the book in my collection... I'm a pretty big Clipper fan. The Bogart movie "China Clipper" has some great footage of a Clipper. Haven't watched it in a while, though, it might be one of the Sikorsky's. I have my own style of humor. I call it Snarkasm.

It's a shame that they were all scrapped....I'd make a special trip to the museum that had one. Check out McMinnville, OR to see the Spruce Goose !! It's huge !

What's the name of the book? I will definitely have to add it to my library. Ladies and gentlemen, take my advice - pull down your pants and slide on the ice. ʘ ͜ʖ ʘ
