Although a chain, I find Eggs Up Grill to have a quite good breakfast. Not cheap, though.

I honestly don't know how many restaurants are making it now and I suspect that a lot are hanging on by a thread.

There's a pizza place near us we get lunch from at work every so often and you could go there at 11:30-12:00 during the weekday and before 2-3 years ago you could barely get in the place, it was takeout only but it would be mobbed and their phone would be ringing off the hook and you'd wait in a line to get your order.

They have raised prices several times pretty significantly over the past two years to the point where many things have literally doubled in price, I know because I have old menus and can see pricing.

Now it's like a ghost town each time I go there. There's no one there, the phone is quiet and I get the impression they are dying a slow death.

Inflation really stinks.

Just a few weeks ago it was $98 for my wife and I and three small kids to eat at Red Robin and we did not get any alcohol and didn't really even order anything other than the regular kids burgers and regular burgers for us and one order of onion rings. 98 freaking dollar for burgers that aren't even that good anymore!

If I want cheap, I eat at home. When we go out, we don't look at the prices. We just order what we want.

Just pay the price and only go out to eat when you can afford it.

Must be nice. Most of us have this thing called a budget.

Being on the road a lot doesnt give me much option. Most of the time i'm on an expense account or a per diem. But between the cost of eating at a restaurant and the frequency in which I NEED to eat out while traveling, I really enjoy cooking at home.

But that shit aint cheap right now either.

Restaurants that continue screaming inflation as the excuse to justify their hiked prices and shitty qualities get no sympathy from me, if they go under. Look at the year-by-year (and month-by-month) inflation rates since 2020 and tell me if their present claim is justified. I could understand them, if inflation were still outrageous as it was in 2021 (when FJB assumed office), 2022 and the first half of 2023. But there is no excuse to continue clinging to that shit now.

I quit eating out 20+ years ago on the regular. I was dating a lot at the time and did a 90 day study and analyzation. Saved receipts for 90 days and was appalled. Stop doing it after that when I looked at it from a monthly/quarterly perspective. I lift and workout a lot and many of us pivot to just eating 90+% out of our own kitchens. I’ve learned to make most anything, make extra for meal prep. This missus likes Sushi so we only go out to eat every few months. We have experienced the increases in cost across the board. We just get water with lemons, if they have them. And we have found a smaller Sushi chain, as that is her favorite and we go there. A robot delivers our waters and we order ourself on a screen then a conveyor belt is all around the tables/booths so after you place your order electronically, the conveyor belt circulates and you grab it. If a table before you snatches your rolls, you can just order again. The plates have barcodes and it scans what you eat. You only deal with staff getting seated and when paying the bill. Price is excellent and the rolls are solid. Not real interested in going anywhere else. It’s become too expensive. Restaurant food is too calorie dense also. She cooks and has a degree as a nutritionist and I’ve studied it myself for 35 years so I have the right partner in crime on this. Bars and restaurants can suck it.

Maggie's Kitchen in the back part of the strip behind Dad's Backyard Grill. That strip mall is on the other side of the wall separating it from Chase Bank on Windsong.

I'm no expert on it, but Pho Houston [45/West Rd] was always good when we've gone there. A bit of a pain to get to, since you have to navigate surface streets through te BW8/I45 interchange.
Near enough to IAH for a lunch run & reasonably priced.

I was out yesterday for a B-day gathering. It was paid for, but I kept it reasonably, salmon.

Drinks are a biggie, alcohol of course but even pop, soda, or iced tea can approach $3.

If it’s too much to ‘split’ something, order one, the other gets a smaller dish, side salad or appetizer. It’s easy to do the split in the down low.

Not trying to be too cheap, just saying, the peripherals can add up.

Not being cheap at all in my opinion. More like good thinking.

Not really.

In our heyday, we used to go out to eat at least twice a week. Now we don't even go once a month.

Have cut way back on alcohol too. So once every couple of months, we get to recreate the old days.

$100.56 for an early dinner for 2 at Pusser's.
Worth. Every. Penny.

It isn’t just about the cost, its also about the perceived value. We had drinks, appetizer, main courses, and we each had dessert. Everything was outstanding including the service.

But I stopped eating at a few of the fast food places because the prices have jumped maybe $5 and I'm not willing to pay $17 for 5 chicken tenders and a small fries, no drink.

Their menu looks great. I'd happily take your place.

Pretty much anywhere now a good burger is going to be $13-$18, and way better than any fast food.

I'm not real price sensitive anymore, but I still can't bring myself to pay too much $$ for too little quality. Five Guys is the most expensive burger I will ever buy and I go there 1-2x per year. Nothing more expensive is one iota better and we have In-N-Out and Whataburger everywhere in AZ, which I like just as much.

Husband brought me out the other day; I thought I’d be frugal by ordering two shots instead of two margaritas… 12$/shot. At Outback. I made the mistake of calling it. I never knew Jamesons was that expensive.
